So I installed 32 gb ram from Corsair then I turned my PC on and went into bios. Everything seemed correct so I activated xmp and saved the changes. It then turned off. Now when I turn it on it shuts down and then turns itself on again. The fans work, but my screen is black.

I have tried to remove all usb sticks but that did not work.

I still haven't found out why XMP didn't work but I figured it out I just had to remove the graphics board so I could remove and reinsert the bios battery restoring the bios settings to default.

well, the first thing i always do before turning on XMP is see if the memory even works by just booting to the desktop, then if that works i reboot into the BIOS and enable XMP. when you select save and restart it will shut off then turn back on and can take up to 30 minutes reading-training the new memory and getting it ready before it boots to desktop.

Ah so should I just let it run in 30 min then?

well, you don't do anything but wait until it trains the new memory then it will boot to desktop, as long as you don't get any beeping noises your good, just be patient and wait it out. when i had my corsair dominator platinum in it seemed to take longer than the crucial did at first, maybe 10-15 minutes.

I am considering turning it off by holding down the power button…

I can then reset the bios on the mb.

That should make it operational again.

After 1 hour and 30 minutes I have shut it down because of there not being any change.

I will try at a later date to reset the bios.

It seemed unreasonable to me that there would be a change from what I have read.

sorry man i was AFK, just turn off the pc, take the memory out reseat it then boot into the BIOS there is a section to reset the BIOS back to factory specs at the top, do that then restart with XMP off and see if you can get it to post-boot to the desktop. then if that all works like normal then restart into BIOS turn on XMP and go from there. what MHZ DDR5 did u get?

Any chance you jostled the GPU card enough to get it loose when installing the memory? You would get the blank screen then. Try reseating it…

Hey, I was able to work on this again.

I removed and reinserted both the ram sticks.

When you mentioned there was a section to reset bios, did you mean a physical button or some sorts or was it something when booting?

If so should I just try booting my PC up again?

when you either start up or reboot the pc keep tapping the delete key until you enter the BIOS menu then at the top you will see an option to reset to defaults, select that then save and exit. the pc will shut off then restart then it should boot to desktop with the memory running at 4400MHz then if that works reboot back into the BIOS and enable XMP and try again.

ah that's awesome I'm glad you figured it out and very strange you had to do that but hey if it worked that's all that matters.

so now you can boot to desktop, right?

and check the speed of your memory using task managers memory tab.

    it should be 4400.
