I have my buttons set to max but sound volume is too low both on speakers and headphones.  I have tried command prompt but it will not enter alsamixer.  Is there another way to get to the internal volume settings ?

Do you mean internal speakers or external speakers and headphones?

Ensure that the external devices are being plugged all the way in.

I'm sure you've already used the volume controls on the keyboard, but for others who might not be aware:

How do I adjust the sound on my Acer Chromebook?

From what I've seen, you are only able to launch ALSAmixer from Dev Mode.

I do not know that this will result in any changes for your system, as leaving dev-mode will revert changes back to regular mode.

Speaker volume may not be great, but headphones, if properly engaged in the jack, should work.

If you have fully inserted the headphone plug into the jack but are not getting appropriate volume, you may consider contacting support for assistance with the hardware.

** Enabling developer mode will wipe any data you have stored on the device. **

Hold down ESC and Refresh buttons and press Power to turn on the system.

When it gets to the Recovery mode screen, you will press CTRL + D.

It will ask you to confirm, then reboot into dev-mode.

From the command prompt in dev-mode you can run alsamixer.
