FN function or windows key Is this normal to use the window keys instead of the FN keys ?

I just bought a new acer . To turn off the keyboard back lights, for my previous laptop I would use FN + F9, now for this computer, I have to use windows key + F11. Is this normal to use the window keys instead of the FN keys ? The FN key seems to be of a different function than of the past computer. I didn't use the window key very much on the previous acer.
