Hello. I have been consistently encountering a Code 12 error related to my network adapter. Despite my efforts, the issue persists, and I'm having trouble establishing a stable internet connection.

Error Details:

  • Device Manager displays a Code 12 error for the network adapter.
  • The error message indicates that "This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)"
  • If I try to reinstall the driver to fix this issue, it shows the same after 2 mins of working.

Steps Taken So Far: I've attempted several troubleshooting steps, including:

  1. Uninstalling and reinstalling the network adapter driver.
  2. Checking for driver updates via Windows Update.
  3. Scanning for malware or viruses.
  4. Resetting the network settings.
  5. Disk Checks through cmd.
  6. Using an external usb wifi adapter.

A similar issue persists with the ethernet driver too in which it shuts down to same code when I try to run something more heavy on the computer i.e. too many tabs or launching a game. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

    What else is running and what other devices are connected? You mention connecting a USB adapter, does it act the same? Have you gone the SFC/DISM route to make sure the OS hasn't got corruption?

    @billsey

    Two other devices are connected - Wired Keyboard and Mouse. The USB adapter's driver seems to be getting error code 39, not sure why. I have attached a screenshot for your reference. If i am not wrong you are referring to sfc /scannow. I remember running those cmds few months back and not fixing any of the issues. If you could help me with fixing either of the issues (qualcomm or usb adapter), I would be satisfied as I just need a stable internet that doesn't go out randomly. Thanks

    I figured I should also mention this. I ran Windows Memory Diagnostics few days back and It said "Hardware problems were found.". Hopefully, this doesn't have any correlation with the network issue. 🤞

    This is the system block diagram on your laptop:

    They shipped those units with one of three different WLAN cards, all 802.11abgn:

    You are obviously having hardware issues, since the SFC/DISM process isn't fixing it. The laptop is ten years old, so likely it's not going to be worth it to try and fix the issues. I would have really expected the SFC/DISM combination to have fixed it if it were corrupted drivers…
