I have an Acer Nitro 5 AN515-44. My screen won't stop flickering.

My screen is flickering non stop. I have tried uninstalling/updating my AMD display drivers but that did not work. There is no flickering when the PC is connected to an external display via HDMI. The screen flickers less when there is motion on the screen eg. when watching a video, when there is a loading wheel and also when moving the cursor. The screen also flickers in safe mode. The screen flickers in BIOS on rare occasion.

What might be the problem and how do I solve it?

Thank you @eGomes . I have just tried disabling MPO but the flickering persisted. I also checked the BIOS screen after deleting the Overlay Registry entry and this time it was not flickering. But the screen still flickers after logging in.

That could either be a bad display or the cable running to the display is bad. The cable is less likely though, since they typically only flicker like that while you are opening and closing the laptop. You are likely best off to see about getting a repair. Are you still in warranty?

@billsey Thanks, I'm just wondering what could have happened to damage my display so that I can avoid it in the future. The warranty is no longer valid, I've had the laptop for 3 years now.

My laptop charger recently blew during a power surge but the laptop was not connected to power at the time. I was unable to get a new one in my geographical location so I put in a new capacitor instead. Both the charger and laptop worked fine for about 10 days before the screen started misbehaving.

*Correction, the screen still flickers in BIOS, only that it flickers to a lower degree.

Below is a link to a video that captures the flickering while in BIOS.
