Problems with Connecting Second Monitor - Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58-71HS

So I have a normal Phillips 60 Hz monitor that has a VGA input. I also have an HDMI to VGA conversion cable. When I plug it into the Laptop and Monitor, the Monitor says "no signal found", and I am not sure if the Monitor is even identified. On my Windows settings, it shows a second monitor, and the mouse does indeed disappear when I move it to the other monitor. I cannot figure out the issue at all.

I appreciate your help everyone, Thanks!

The HDMI port only natively supports HDMI signal output, not VGA signal output. Accordingly, you need an active HDMI-to-VGA signal converter, not a passive HDMI-to-VGA form factor cable adapter that you seem to be holding in your hand.

Since you should have a ThunderBolt port, a perhaps better and cheaper option would be a VGA converter such as shown below.

    Hey JackE,

    thanks for your time.
I found out that I can actually stream the second monitor on Discord. People and myself can see it on the stream, yet in reality the monitor has this weird "black" screen with a dim light. It also appears as a second monitor when checking the Display Settings (fn+f5).
So my question is, is it really an HDMI to VGA converter problem? If not and theres a fix around that would be amazing. Thanks!

Yes. Because the HDMI port still doesn't natively feed the monitor VGA signals. While 'handshaking' between the HDMI port and VGA monitor might be telling the operating system that a monitor is detected at the port, the port will nonetheless feed that monitor HDMI video signals, not VGA video signals.

As mentioned, the fix is an active HDMI-to-VGA signal converter, not a passive HDMI-to-VGA form factor adapter. A perhaps cheaper alternative to the HDMI-to-VGA signal converter, is to take advantage of your ThunderBolt port with the aforementioned ThunderBolt-to-VGA converter.

    Hey again,

So I bought the piece you told me about, except its a USB C to HDMI port converter and managed to set everything up. The second monitor is recognized by everything on my system. The sound, on NVIDIA Control Panel, as mentioned before I can stream it on Discord, and so on.. it literally is everywhere. Yet, I only get a blank black screen with this dim light that indicates the monitor is actually on. This is so weird. My issue is still the same.

    Thank you for your time.

How old is this monitor? When was the last time it worked with a PC having native VGA signal output port?

How old, not really sure, I bought it from some guy. It worked literally a month ago on my old laptop

Try it again on the old laptop if possible. Also, does the port you're trying to use have the lightning bolt symbol?
