when i try to play heavier games with the computer plugged in, the screen starts to flicker, the game shaders bug, the rendering gets much worse, as if the video card was gradually stopping working. normally, when this happens, i leave the notebook on battery power, but the performance drops a lot.
another thing i've noticed is the heat, when it's plugged in, the fans go crazy and the pc gets really hot, but on the battery things stay normal. any ideas?

The flickering issue is a common thing in these latest model Nitro 5 laptops, it happens on my Nitro 5 AN515-56 the same, and the way I fixed this issue is that I'm only running the oem Acer supplied Intel VGA driver for my AN515-56 which you should do the same for your AN515-57 which is the VGA Utility - Intel - 2021/11/11 - 1.100.3282.0 - 118.25 MB - Download, also always run the latest NVidia Game Ready driver for your gpu and OS and run your games through the NVidia GeForce Experience software and set the NVidia Control Panel > Program Settings > Select a program to customize > Select the preferred graphics processor for this program > and chose the High-performance NVIDIA processor for those games and high-end software that you have, so that you always use the NVidia gpu.

So, download and install the Intel VGA driver above as it will stop the flickering together the NVidia software that you should do especially playing your games through the NVidia GeForce software, as this software sets all games to their ultimate and best settings for the gpu/cpu so that your laptop runs at its coolest.

With the heat, just remember that a laptop is not a desktop and its components are confined into a limited space, hence and why they overheat, and if you play high end games, then your laptop has to be performing at its peak both software wise and hardware wise, as its just part of the course with these gaming laptops and all you can do is to make sure that your cpu/gpu are repasted regularly and its thermal pads are changed with a high end paste and pads, your laptops fans and vents are cleaned out regularly and that you keep your laptop off its base and you have a good flow of air underneath your laptop, preferably you should use a high end laptop cooler as that assists greatly with ventilation also. If you want a serious gaming platform then buy a desktop or build a desktop, as any gaming laptop doesn't come anywhere near a high-end gaming desktop, its just fact and part of the course. Good luck and hope this has helped you out.
