TM 7750G-649 FirmwareType, does Acer use 0 and 1 for Legacy Boot and UEFI, respectively, or 1 and 2?

On an Acer computer, C:\Windows\Panther\Setupact.log has:

"Detected boot environment: 1." instead of "Detected boot environment: BIOS" or "Detected boot environment: EFI." Some computer manufacturers use 0 and 1 for Legacy BIOS and UEFI, respectively, but others use 1 and 2. Does Acer use 0 and 1, in which case 1 is UEFI, or 1 and 2, in which case 1 is BIOS? The Boot tab in BIOS has only the boot priority order, not the boot mode. The Microsoft System Information interface (msinfo32) doesn't show boot mode.

What model laptop are you talking about, as Acer uses 0 and 1 to represent Legacy Boot and UEFI, respectively, for the Firmware Type attribute.

Please only open one thread when you have a question. The TravelMate 7750 and 7750G originally came with Windows 7 and didn't support UEFI. They may have added UEFI support to a later BIOS, but Those machines are old enough now that support files have been removed from Acer's support site.

How do I close the other thread, which was started before I found out that "Detected boot environment: 1."? Amazing Ace, that you saw the other too!

So if they were still shipping with Boot mode Legacy on January 19, 2012, then that's great. Someone at Acer would know, but I don' t know anyone who works at Acer. Any ideas?

I should have added that it is Windows 7. Is that then enough to determine that it's not UEFI?

Windows 8 didn't ship until the end of 2012, so it's not surprising at all that the 7750 series didn't have UEFI, especially as the default, since they were announced almost a year prior to that. I would not be surprised to find that they didn't support UEFI at all, normally the models that were right on the cusp like that had a motherboard rev to add UEFI support in because the CMOS memory size had to be larger for UEFI than it did for MBR boot. Remember they weren't required to ship with UEFI support until the first models that came with W8 standard, and Windows 7 models could run Windows 8 without UEFI…
