Is predatorsense really that precise?

For reference this is the PC:
https://www.acer.com/dk-da/predator/desktops-and-all-in-ones/predator-orion/orion-5000/pdp/DG.E3AEQ.007
Today I wanted to do a larger download. I chose not to limit ram usage (total usage ended up being circa 66% properly because I only have 16 gb).
Anyway, when it came to unpacking the file my cpu usage sometimes spiked up to 80-100% might have been 15 seconds total over the duration of 3 minutes.
I used Predetorsense to monitor the temperature and fan speed.
The temperature shown was around 70 degrees celsius but it sometimes spiked to 100 degrees right around when the cpu usage also spiked. Afterwards it would should 80-85, but it was not at all a steady growth og a steady decline in temperature.
The fans were not really blowing any harding than normally and they were set to auto so I assume if the temperature was even close to 100 degrees that the fans would blow much harder than that if there was a problem.
I now use 'Core Temp' which seems more reliable as well as showing the temperatures typically well under what Predatorsense shows.
Should I just continue using 'Core Temp'?
And also is it actually plausible that the CPU actually reached 100 degrees and I have in one way or another permanently crippled my PC????
Because the fans were really not picking up the pace. I have attached 2 .png showing the fan speed on auto and game. The fans were properly used 1,3 times more during the download that shown in the auto setting png.

  • When it come to unpacking it take huge cpu usage, on some system it's for longer duration and on some it's Just for a second. Like when I try to install repacks games then cpu temperature and usage suddenly spikes at that time temperatures also go to high because fans were in normal speed and sudden spike in cpu usage cause temperatures to go high. I recommend you to max out fan speed while doing these

Is it happens while gaming also?

No, it doesn't happen while gaming but even then 'Core Temp' typically shows temperatures 10-20 degrees lower than predatorsense.

I did make the fans blow harder but it really surprises me if the CPU reached 100 degrees because 1. The Pac should have turned off to prevent components being damaged 2. Auto mode should detect the temperature and increase the fans speed to avoid damaging the components.

Can I then assume that the CPU didn't reach those detected tempeturrs

Tmax of intel Cpu is 105°C or 110°C. . But your laptop won't allow it to reach in that state. Thermal throttling and shutdown will happen.

the CPU cooler in every acer gaming pc isn't good enough. most of us have replaced the stock cooler with something else that works better. my 5000 came with a 12700F and i think yours has a 13700F and that runs even hotter. i put a Noctua NH-U12A and its amazing wouldn't use anything else. and i use MSI Afterburner for monitoring temperatures while gaming. i also keep all my fans at 100% when gaming.

I also heard some rumors about that, and I myself have considered improving the cooling. My question however lies more or less in if I should be scared that I might have damaged the CPU. But again considering the previous descriptions I have provided I don't really think I could possibly have damaged the CPU.

nope your fine it's from that terrible stock cooler all cheap gaming pcs come with no matter who makes them. and just so you know the Noctua NH-U12A rivals the best AIO liquid coolers out there and is the largest and IMO best air cooler for our cases. if you look at mine there are other ways to improve air flow also if you're into that. i removed the HDD caddy and GPU bracket they were blocking almost all the air flow from the front fans. and i added 2 fans on the top as exhaust also. the picture you see there is from this past summer when it's hot out i take all the covers off for extreme cooling in my air-conditioned basement then like now it's almost winter and freezing outside all the covers are back on and the tower is facing a window i open when gaming letting it suck in the cold air from outside wow what a difference it makes its 10C cooler than with ac running. summer i get 47C-53C in winter now 38C-43C on my 3070. the CPU is 38C-44C in summer and now I'm getting 28C-34C. and it will only improve as it gets colder outside heh. so ambient rooms temperatures matter more than anything for internal temperatures.

The fan speed isn't typically set on a curve, but in steps based on temperature. Fan speed will be set to value when the CPU temperature rises above a set threshold, then dropped to a lower value when the temperature drops below a lower threshold. Unfortunately because you can set custom values in Predator Sense they don't publish the fan tables in the service guide.
