Acer Nitro 5 AN517-54 experiencing severely low FPS drop when playing Starfield

I've been playing Starfield on my Acer Nitro 5 for the past couple of weeks, graphics and FPS have been excellent. Yesterday while I was playing, I thought I had the charger plugged in but it was not, and Windows notified me that my battery was low (10%) I quickly plugged it in and kept playing. About 10 minutes later the fan became very loud and the framerate dropped. I quit the game shutdown to let the battery charge back to 100%, then reopened to start playing again, and the framerate was still incredibly low.

I've restarted, reinstalled the latest Nvidia driver, updated Windows 11, let the battery die and recharge back to 100%, deleted and reinstalled the game, changed the game's graphics settings, but the problem persists. I also have Sims 3 on my hard drive which runs fine with several mods.

Can anyone suggest what to do?
