Aspire VX5-591G gaming drains battery while plugged in

Hello everyone!

I recently bought a used Aspire VX5 laptop and it shows some problems regarding energy and battery usage while gaming, that I think are mainly caused by a combination of GPU settings and some issues with the battery.

I first tried playing Crysis 2 with the laptop plugged in and without modifying any GPU parameter. After 5-10 minutes, the laptop would start draining the battery, which is pretty old and gets completely depleted in 15-20 minutes tops.

I tinkered a bit in the Nvidia control panel and I found that setting the "energy control mode" (don't know the exact english translation) to "optimal power" allowed me to play without any issues.

However I also tried installing Crysis 3 and the optimal power setting does not seem to work anymore, as again the battery starts draining after 5-10 minutes. I also set all the graphic options to the lowest in the game but it did not affect the battery draining.

Are there any fixes for this? I replaced the battery charger but not the battery itself yet. Would it help to do so?

I thank in advance anyone who can point me in the right direction, cheers
