Hello,

Bought a brand new Predator Helios 16 and it is no longer working/booting. I have used it for like two days. Played a few games on it the other night and it was fine, then the next day I opened the laptop and it had red writing on a black background in the upper left corner saying something along the lines of "Battery is too low to update. Please meet some of the criteria - 1: Battery charger plugged in 2: Battery charged to atleast 25%" something along these lines. So I plugged the laptop in and let it charge and eventually the screen changed to a black screen with the predator logo and a progress bar on the bottom that said it was updating. I left while it updated and came back like an hour later and the screen was completely black and wouldnt do anything. I tried restarting and still the same thing. Keyboard is completely dark as well the only lights that appear on the laptop are the turbo button, the helios lights on the back that are attached to the area you plug the charger into, and the 2 led indicators on the right side of the laptop for charging and power. I can hear the fans turn on as well. I'm wondering if the update didn't fully go through or corrupted something on the laptop to where it won't boot? Is there anything I can do to fix this? I am currently deployed so no local acer repair shops and mailing it in for a warranty will take a long time. Any and all help is appreciated/

Troubleshooting steps taken:

1: Tried booting into BIOS by pressing F2 after power on but nothing appears at all so I can't even get into BIOS. Also tried plugging in an external monitor to see if anything would show up - nothing detected.

2: Tried holding down the power button for multiple time durations up to 60 seconds and still wont turn on.

3: Left laptop on overnight to completely drain the battery and then the next morning charged battery to 100% and tried to turn on - nothing.

You probably interrupted a Windows or Acer system update, either by not having the adapter plugged in during an update or by pressing the power button for >5 seconds. System updates can take hours to install and all you see is a black screen. Since this is a new laptop, you should not try to open the back and reset the CMOS. I recommend bringing/sending the laptop to Acer Services in your country to reset the system to factory defaults, this free service will fall under warranty. You will have to pay for the shipping.

Would this be something that can still be completed if I leave laptop on/plugged in for a few hours? I will try that and see if anything happens.

I have this issue as well. As do many others apparently. It's maddening. Purchased it from Acer Recertified. 90% of the time the keyboard lights up, but black screen. I've never owned an Acer; this is the first laptop I've had in which a possible update might be occurring, but there is nothing on the screen that would indicate such. So, I have to come back every few minutes to check a screen that is still black. To say I'm disappointed would be a tremendous understatement.

Anyone having this issue - I will tell you about my problem and how I stumbled onto a fix. Hopefully, it will apply to those who have the long black screen boot.

    I have a 2023 manufactured Helios 16 MicroLED i9 4080.

My issue was when the laptop was switched on, it would power up and stay on the black screen for a good 5-10 minutes. Then would boot up fine.

What I have found with the laptop is that the Acer Preditor software interfers with everything in the system. Initially, it would interfer with the RGB lighting of the keyboard and a few chuggy gaming sessions. Then the slow boot started.

I found uninstalling the software completely, sorted out it out, but of course there was then no RGB lighting for the keyboard….. which I kind of want.

So I simply downloaded an older version of the software from the Acer website and it has worked correctly ever since.

What I will say is that the Microsoft Windows updates also updates the Acer Preditor software, which is where the issue started for me. So I simply turn of the auto updates and vet them.

I've never had an issue since.
