    It shouldn't matter what manufacturer of the flash drive is, but how you create the drive with your image does. Are you trying with a Windows install image, a Linux install image (which?) or something else entirely?

    Now it worked with the computer turned off,
    inserting the USB and starting the computer and holding F12.
    As I have struggled with this, and it was so easy.
    Thank you all for your help and tips.

    There are some alternate OSes (Pop! OS comes to mind) that change the amount of time the system waits to see if you have pressed a key during POST. With those it's always hit and miss if you can get the key recognized in time, and holding the key while powering up will often be enough.
