Asphire 5750G/Atheros AR5B97 adapter loses all available internet networks

Hi, I am new here so I hope someone can help.

I have an ACER ASPHIRE 5750G and for the last week my wireless connection randomly disappears along with all other available networks 5 secs later. When I restart the laptop, everything is back on until the next time it drops out, this can be 5 mins or max ive known 3hours. It doesnt matter what i am doing at that time as It can happen when doing nothing.

I have had no issues with speed etc. My phone & xbox live have no issue with the same router.  I have done the standard reset on the router many times.

I have done a system reset to furthest available time and this made no difference. I have downloaded and installed the driver from this acer site (uninstalling it first aswell as just installing straight off). Also tried installng a different update to the driver from an unofficial atheros site, this put the laptop into a crash dump and into system repair. I have also tried updating java.

I have got auto updates not to update. power option on max and also told driver not to turn off to save power. Also told it to connect to network when it is unavailable (currently not told).

None of this has helped. The only thing I can do is restart laptop and hope it lasts longer than the last time. As you can imagine this is very frustrating.

Here is some extra info... anyone want anymore then please specify... thanks

One important thing i forgot to mention was that the wireless light has gone from blue to orange. I looked this up and apparently orange is the normal colour to say it is working. This has confused me as it ran perfectly when it was blue.

Hi pauldadams84, sorry for my late reply. First of all, you always need to use the official drivers from the manufacturer, in your case, ATHEROS. I have some ideas to solve this, but I need more info about it.

Make sure that your energy plan is not turning off your Wifi Card. Usually laptops do this to increase the batery life.

1-Go to Control Pannel >> Networks and Internet >> Network Center and Sharing >> Change Adapter Configuration.

2-Find your Wifi Spot and do: Right Click >> Properties >> Configure.. >> Energy Administration >> and uncheck the first option ( Allow the equip to turn off...).

    3- Restart

Another option could be triying with another OS, some Linux distributions such as Ubuntu has LiveCD option. It won't change your current OS.

1-Download and burn Ubuntu OS, or make a booting pendrive.

2-Start the normal booting Process and press on "Try Ubuntu"

3-Use it with your Wifi Card to make sure that is a driver problem.

The last one for now is some Wifi Cards have compatibility issues with some brands of routers. I don't know is that is your case. To prove this hypotesis you can reset your Router, also some Wifi Cards have more power, you can switch in to the highest.

    I'll be hanging

    Regards
