When will ACER update the INTEL custom GMA video drivers for the Predator PH315-55's ?

When will ACER update the INTEL custom GMA video drivers for the Predator PH315-55's ? The last customized intel graphics driver intel iris XE update was released in april of 2022. Since than Windows 11 has changed a lot and this older driver has a lot of issues. That said, INTEL itself has released many updates that may or may not work well with this system. I refuse to update with any of these drivers due to the fact that one update disabled my entire screen to the point I was forced to redo my entire system! REAL pain in the a**. the second one they released, I risked trying again desperate for some improvements… it worked, but was actually worse than the original ACER driver. I've since given up on INTEL's drivers as they seem to have way too many compatibility issues with this system and are too risky to bother with. so.. WHEN (or why not) will ACER be releasing any updated custom INTEL IRIS XE GPU drivers for the Predator PH315-55's?? The current one, while somewhat functional is now a bit of a headache to use. with occcasional system freeze ups, crashing programs and apps after they freeze up, and some video playback crashing and freezing up. and that's the best driver available! I realize this system has an NVIDIA too, but that GPU is better used for intensive video editing and games etc. the main INTEL one is used for everything else which is why this is a more important issue than most think. That INTEL driver is only about 80% stable now with the very Operating System it shipped with. Where is the up to date support is my question? I know for a fact a more compatible updated customized driver can eliminate a lot of ongoing stability issues. this thing is only a year old. not too old for updated drivers. Please advise on this and if nothing is planned, I would suggest ACER escalate this to someone that can authorize an updated driver for this system as it is very needed right now. the stability as it is now, is very subpar. These are the kinds of things that affect future purchasing choices I might add. just sayin. And please. Can you fix your website? a TON of web browsers have stopped using Javascript years ago. Now your own website is barely functional except for a handful of browsers that still have javascript enabled fully. just an FYI

    I am able to update the nvidia drivers and they work great every month. which proves my point. Intel has become ridiculously stupid. And ACER, is not doing enough to support their own systems and customers. It's now November 28, 2023. and we are now 5 or 6 or maybe 7 now? intel IRIS XE display updates down the road from when I last posted here. JUST tried their latest and ….

    Complete and utter Screen boot up Fail. Which if you have no other options can, can be quite horrific as far as having to potentially have to redo your entire windows 11 system… Fortunately, I found a way to get the system to boot into safe mode this time and roll back the now 3rd major failed driver and restart (panic avoided). but still. wow. all these updates and Intel can't even put ONE decent out I can even use in supporting THEIR own product no less ! lol it's absurd. NEVER used to happen in the past. ever. the drivers were either an improvement or not so great but they always at least worked and displayed SOMETHING. So Intel and ACER are both to blame for this and I'll never buy an ACER PC again over this. Say what you will about Lenovo, but they are awesome about driver updates that work and are well tested. at least they were a few years back last I used one. All this being said, today's attempt was my last attempt at updating this driver via Intel. So, I'm basically stuck with either the original year old ACER approved driver (and now not playing videos etc very well as it falls behind) OR, I'm forced to use a slightly updated (by mere months) Microsoft approved Intel driver with Windows hardware compatibility testing that goes through Microsoft. Honestly, the Acer still works better which doesn't say much because it still has developed many annoying issues. Yes I know I already proved my point. I'm merely adding today's horrific experience to the thread here in the hopes maybe someone at ACER will do something about this mess and earn back my respect. I doubt it though. most big corporations just don't care these days and so you have to take what you can from the losses and learn which ones to continue buying from and which ones to ditch. Acer is now the latter for me.

    Acer only provides drivers for the initial new laptop and oem drivers and appropriate bios updates, its your responsibility to keep your Predator PH315-55 drivers up to date, its a simple task and you should be able to do this very easily! Its not Acer responsibility to keep their laptop software’s up to date when its so easy to update.

    dude. did you even READ my post here? lol THE INTEL updated drivers DO NOT WORK. they break the system and make it worse. Please THINK a little before replying. helps to actually read someone's post. If you don't have anything constructive to add to the discussion, best not to reply at all.

    Take note the highlighted text. Yes you can update using Intel directly but even they are warning "customizations" may be necessary depending on the OEM system build specs. I found this out the hard way. once when I had to reinstall my entire system after simply updating to INTEL's latest. the second time, the driver was worse than the OEM again. so you can see there is an issue here.

    Secondly, I know for a fact, ACER has updated OEM drivers in the past over 2 year spans when deemed necessary.

    I've read your post and I understand exactly your question and what you are asking and also saying this "the driver was worse than the OEM again" is a very unusual thing, as in my experience and in 14 years of using Acer products of both laptops and desktop's and AIOs and using all the Intel CPU integrated graphics and using Acer drivers and Intel drivers, I've never ever experienced your problem(s) and what happened to you, as its never ever happened to me.

    YES, Intel warns users that "Installing this generic driver will overwrite your computer (OEM) customized driver etc etc etc and all the usual legal warnings, as Intel has to do this for legal reasons and so that they don't get blamed! Remember, that no other manufacturers update these Intel cpu graphics drivers, they has an initial one there as a driver but they don't update them! Acer also only has ONE for when the laptop is initially released as an initial driver for users, as they will NOT have another Intel VGA driver ever, so don't wait for Acer to update this driver as you will be waiting forever😂!

    The Acer integrated driver are the same as the Intel drivers, you must be very picky with graphics if you found anything different, as I haven't ever found any difference between the Acer, or the Intel provided graphics drivers! Also, I've been running the Intel latest graphics drivers on my Nitro AN515-56 with an 11th Gen i7-11370H - RTX3050 laptop since new (that is 18 months, and many Intel graphics drivers updates and NVidia graphics updates) with Win-11 Home and gaming and high-end software and have had NO problems with the original Arc drivers from Intel and it should be the same with your laptop that comes with a 12th Gen of either an i7-12700H or i5-12500H cpu's that has an integrated Arc type graphics, which its latest BETA driver - dated 8/2/2023 is the Intel® Arc™ & Iris® Xe Graphics - Windows* driver is the gfx_win_101.4578.exe or the last Intel® Arc™ & Iris® Xe Graphics - WHQL - Windows* driver - dated 7/31/2023 - is the gfx_win_101.4577.exe should work perfectly,

    I'm using this 31.0.101.4577 Intel latest driver and it works perfectly and 100% with all aspects that my laptops needs to use the Intel graphics as if the graphics get more complex, it switches over to the RTX3050 or you can designate the NVidia graphics to work with specific high end software of gaming as specific setting in the NVidia Control Panel.

    Your laptop also comes with four different NVidia graphics cards and for your information, your model comes with these specific NVidia gpu's:

    1. GN20-E3 –RTX3060
    2. GN20-E5 – RTX3070
    3. GN20-E6 – RTX3070Ti
    4. GN20-E7 – RTX3080

    Anyway, the last time Acer updated the INTEL custom GMA video drivers for your Predator PH315-55is is with the "VGA Driver (UMA) - version 30.0.101.1692 - 2022/10/03" so and as you can see, this driver is ancient, as they DON'T update every Intel driver and list it in the PH315-55s Drivers & Manuals Acer section for your PH315-55. To get the latest Intel cpu integrated graphics and all other Intel drivers for your laptop, the best way is to install the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant (that I've used for years and never ever had any problems with Intel graphics) as this software scans your system for Intel drivers and its a specialist Intel software made for this purpose and not only graphics but chipset and LAN and Wi-Fi/BT and whatever other Intel components that your laptop has. If you want to use only Acer Intel graphics drivers then you will need to check your Windows Update as that will also update this Intel graphics regularly to whatever Windows has as its latest driver, so its a never-ending loop! Also, don't expect Acer to update these Intel graphics drivers for you, as you will be waiting forever!

    Note: you should have the Acer Care Center and use that updater and see if any Intel drivers are there? That is a specific Acer updater for your laptop, which btw since I've used Acer laptops and this specialist updater was included on Acer laptops, this updater has never ever updated any Intel graphics driver(s).

    I have done that. the driver assistant. and yes. in the PAST, I TOO have never seen this many problems in Intel GPU drivers for a system even when they were not OEM drivers. NEVER seen this. I've been in the tech field for 20+ years! I've never seen this much unbelievable FAIL. It's like the drivers Intel puts out now are just that bad. Don't ask me why! This is a completely new problem I've never experienced before either. I could see maybe one really terrible driver (which this first update was in that it nuked my entire system as I couldn't get the display to even function). but 2 and potentially 3 now?! it's insane. never in my life has this been the case. Now I realize systems and operating systems have changed a lot over the years but I didn't think the quality control at Intel had slipped this ***** bad. like I mean it's now at a point where you can't even trust their drivers to function at basic levels anymore. so I see your point and that is why I posted this for feedback and discussion. I mean if you can't rely on Intel dependability any more, the only other option is for Acer to tweek at least a couple of these updated drivers to prevent the system incompatibilities that seem to be going on much more now for whatever reason. That would be my suggestion. I don't see how this happening either but aside from driver incompatibility issues there is nothing wrong with the system itself from ACER, I think it just needs a tad bit more support to mitigate Intel's apparently recent serious shortcomings and quality problems. Nvidia can do a good job so why can't INTEL anymore? just do search for Why are INTEL's GPU drivers so terrible now? and you will see this isn't just an isolated issue. Intel's GPUS themselves are improving, but drivers… seem to be hit and miss these days now. Driver support assistant is okay. I still use it for other drivers which work alright. but the GPU side has got some problems.

    Yes, I fully agree with what you are saying about Intel drivers and quality of service, as it use to be so spot on and faultless. I'm having major problems with a Bluetooth section of a Wi-Fi/BT card in my Nitro AN515-56 as its Wi-Fi/BT card the Intel Killer AX1650i chip (2.4/5G (160Hz) Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) type card and a v5.2 Bluetooth) only works on Intel's and Acer oem provided Bluetooth driver version 22.40.0.2 in Win-11, as no other driver work for this card, when Intel have already updated this cards Bluetooth driver many times and none work and its latest driver version is the 22.240.0.2 - Release date: July 29, 2023 doesn't work also, so I know the frustrations that you are going through, as Windows Update also updates the Intel graphics drivers automatically also and that is especially the Intel graphics, which makes it even more frustrating as I've also had to change and update these drivers to the latest driver versions also. Most defenatley Intel is not like it was before and their products are very hit and miss, which is very unfortunate.

    yeah that's right. and yes there actually was another driver I tried that came through windows update from Intel and that one had problems too. Sad that intel has this much quality drop. Maybe AMD is a better option now? I don't know. I just wish Acer might make a little effort in taking steps to mitigate Intel's incompetence and extend the quality of their own brands a bit further out

  • I agree with you, as Asus has always been a company that have gone out of their way for support and extended their quality for especially their mobos as that is how they started, but unfortunately their laptops are not as good as the Acer laptop products quality, so be aware of that factor.

    I've been using Acer laptops since 2008 and Asus mobos since 1999 for many builds, that is since Asus first released their AMD Slot-A Athlon (K7 Orion) cpu’s, as pairing the AMD Slot-A K7 cpu together with the Asus mobo was the best gaming combinations in those days and that is when I stared using Asus and I’ve never been disappointed with their mobo quality since then, but their high end gaming ROG laptops are very problematic with certain chips that continually fail and burn out, so be aware of that, as they are not as good as Acer.

    With Acer drivers its unfortunate that Acer does not update their gpu or drivers as often as Asus as that could help compatibility and improve Acer quality also.

    It IS very unfortunate. Not only do they NOT update their drivers, but as of today's visit to see the original factory drivers for my system? THEY ACTUALLY REMOVED THE DRIVERS THAT CAME WITH IT!!! UNBELIEVABLE. ZERO NVIDIA drivers for their own product! ACER has gotta be the worst PC manufacturer I've ever dealt with.     Check it out. There is an "INTEL GNA"??? lol I think they meant INTEL GMA display? whatever. but no NVIDIA drivers for the factory installed NVIDIA RTX Geforce 3070TI. So. outdated intel "whatever" they are describing there, and ZERO drivers of support for the main GPU that came with it. So my question is, WTH is wrong with ACER???! what happened to this company? They used to have a decent reputation at the very least but wow! what is going on with them?? serious question. outdated driver support to removed non driver support for their own laptops?? unheard of this level of lack in support. Word of warning people, ACER is to be avoided if you want any support whatsoever. better to pay a bit more for something like Razer I guess. these guys are out to lunch it seems

    No Ryan717 there is an Intel GNA and an Intel GMA, the Intel GNA is a coprocessor integrated into some Intel CPUs that accelerates the execution of some inference algorithm and there is an Intel GMA, which is an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator, which is a series of integrated graphics processors introduced in 2004 by Intel, replacing the earlier Intel Extreme Graphics series and being succeeded by the Intel HD and Iris Graphics series. So there Ia a big difference between the two😁with the gpu drivers, you know what to do, you don't need to be a spoon fed baby, plus windows update, updates the integrated Intel or AMD graphics drivers anyway. Also, with the NVidia gpu drivers, you can install GeForce Experience to keep your drivers and game settings up to date and for the AMD dedicated gpu's like the RX Vega or other gpu models, you can get the drivers easily from the AMD web site.

    Ryan717 there is no use complaining, as for an experienced computer user like you (which I hope you are), you should know what to do, and this is especially if you buy a high-end Acer Predator PH315-55 laptop like you have, as you should know what to do and have no problems keeping your laptop updated. Acer provides detailed User Manuals on the Predator PH315-55 > Documents (4) section of your laptop.

Like I need to hear ANY of what you just wrote. stop defending idiocy and yes COMPLAIN when something is bad otherwise it just keeps getting worse. Are you paid to support stupid? if not, keep going. eventually it will effect you too negatively. As I said before numerous times, THE DRIVERS intel released do not work! so yes. it's an ISSUE. if you don't have anything constructive to add to the conversation, than just stay out of it. how bout that? seriously. treating ACER with kid gloves when they need a kick in the a** is a mistake. Either way, I'm done with ACER. no longer a trustworthy brand and the lack of support just proves it. too bad. they were good once. now many others just do better.

    Let's try doing updating safely. FYI, I have a PH315-54. Also, I am on the latest Intel drivers since the latest from Acer has issues which I don't remember now. Try these 2 procedures one by one.

    Before doing these procedures, make a Macrium Reflect Backup image of your system, just so you can restore it along with your apps and files.

    Procedure 1:

    Clean install Windows 11. Install all the drivers from Acer support. Update the NVIDIA driver from NVIDIA site Run Windows Updates after having them installed. Next, install Intel DSA and run it. Update all the drivers it offers. During each driver setup's installation phase, don't choose Clean installation. Check if it works fine. If not, restore your Macrium Reflect backup image.

    Procedure 2:

    Same as Procedure 1 but this time, during each driver setup's installation phase, choose Clean installation if available (mostly the Intel's GPU driver.

    If both of these don't help, contact Acer Support and ask them for an updated driver. Here in the community, direct Acer representatives aren't present 24x7.

    @XdxD we have to go through this much for updating stuff in last gen laptops wtf, atleast the company should change the support page they dont care see that there is some problem the drivers are there but the page is bugged and they can provide driver updates or atleast tell how to update their drivers to not have issues and what to update and what not to for example updating intel graphics drivers can cause issues, should we do clean installation or express installation , should use oem drivers or not all these we dont know it is the job of acer to answer these questions. If they dont tell anything then we will only bad support and fix the fuckingg support page for this model

    It's strange that updating works fine in 2021 and older models except the bad screen with respect to image retention while 2022 models don't have hardware issue, but simple stuffs like updating the drivers doesn't work properly. I hope Acer looks into this thread
