How to stop my USB-C Hub from draining my swift X SFX16 battery after shutdown.

Can't find a way to disable the power-out feature on the two USB-C Thunderbolt ports. If left connected to the PC, my USB-C Hub (J5Create) continues to draw power after the PC is shutdown or put in Hibernate mode even when no devices are attached to the HUB. The more devices attached, the more the power drain. Acer Quick Access appl only works for the USB-A ports and Windows 11 has a feature to turn the USB-A ports off on shutdown. What is a need is a function in the BIOS or in Windows to disable the power-out feature in these USB-C ports.

That is because of S0 Modern Standby (the new "Sleep mode") protocol in Windows11 22H2. I recommend you disable hibernate and Fast Startup and use Balanced Power Plan while resetting the advanced power plan setting to factory defaults. Then disable USB Selective Suspend: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/enable-or-disable-usb-selective-suspend-in-windows-11.10251/

Thank you for the suggestions. I have followed your answers to this question before.

I am trying the USB selective suspend options in your link above.
The 1st option mentioned of changing the USB settings in "Power Options" doesn't work because the Swift X doesn't have USB setting in in the Advanced Settings area.
The 2nd option may work, I will test the enable/disable commands in Windows Terminal today. This is not a user friend way of fixing this power problem in the Swift X laptop. Acer needs to address this problem in the BIOS or add appl to enable/disable the power-out option in their USB-C ports.
I'll let you know if I can resolve my problem.

    Thanks again Puraw

The USB setting in Power Plan is either hidden in Windows11 or a Windows registry key has been changed, not a Swift X issue, check this W10 link:

I made the changes suggested in your link, option two. Using the Windows Powershell I disabled both AC and DC USB selective suspend functions. This didn't work. As a user, this is not my problem. Acer needs to find a way to figure their USB-C thunderbolt4 more closely to the specifications. Acer themselves says that the USB-C port is "Compatible" to Thunderbolt4 specification. Compatible means not exactly. :)
I have also tried the suggestions found on this forum for other related USB-C problems related to the port's battery power drain.

I have tried you last suggestion and have disabled both Power Management options. This didn't fix the problem.

I found that my hub's Ethernet port had a Power Management option and I disabled them too. Unfortunately, the HDMI and two USB-A ports didn't have the options to disable these ports. Again, I should not have to change the hub ports. The problem is with the PC's USB-C ports.

Did you update your BIOS to version 2023/07/25 1.07?

The latest available BIOS from Acer support for my Swift X SFX16-52G is V 1.05 date 2022/09/16.

It updates AX88179 PE UEFI driver.

I have a get-around to the problem of having to unplug my hub from the usb-c pc port after shutdown in order to stop the power drain.

I plug my hub into my pc's USB-A port using a USB-C to USB-A adaptor. My pc's USB-A ports don't drain the battery after shutdown.

Again, thank you for your help.

My Acer 3 laptop battery is drained overnight. This is due to the USB C hub being powered when the laptop is off and unplugged. I am running the v1.08 bios which has the latest power features. I can see that this problem has not been fixed despite the fact that I bought my laptop 1 week ago and this problem was raised 3 months ago.

There needs to be an option in the bios F2 to switch off the USB C hub when the laptop is off.

    I have investigated and changed

    1. Switched off fast boot
    2. Set the Laptop to shutdown when the power button is pressed
    3. Switched on all power saving functions that the OS gives me.
    4. Checked the bios version to see if there is a fix - there appears to be none
    5. The USB A socket does not have this issue

Despite my best efforts my laptop battery is sucked dry every night.

Please note selling products in Australia that unnecessarily waste energy and therefore increase carbon production and destroy the planet is a hot topic right now. Especially with the cost of electricity skyrocketing.

Please advise when this is to be fixed.
