New Acer Aspire 5 A517-52 fan running on full speed all the time (even when just opening BIOS)

I just bought a brand new Acer Aspire 5 A517-52 yesterday and I noticed that whenever I turn it on, the fan is running on full speed all the time, which is very loud.
It does not matter if I boot into the Acer Linux eShell (this laptop does not come with Windows) or a Linux Live USB system or just open the BIOS. The fan is always running on full speed.

The fan constantly blowing on full speed while just opening the BIOS is not normal, right? I don't see any option in the BIOS to adjust the fan speed.

I have an older Acer Aspire 5 A515 where the fan is mostly silent the whole time, so I am wondering what is wrong with this brand new Acer Aspire 5 A517.

Have you tried installing NoteBook Fan Control (NBFC) for Linux?

No I have not installed it. The fan control should be done directly in the hardware, it should not be necessary to install any software to adjust it. The fan running on maximum for 10+ minutes after just opening the BIOS is not normal for any laptop I have worked with so far.

So my question is, if this behavior is normal for the new Acer Aspire 5 A517-52 or if something is wrong with my device and I should look for a replacement.
  • When you press fn+f, do the fans speed decrease?

Yes. If you go directly to the BIOS on startup by tapping F2, the fan usually should ramp up to full speed for a few seconds then decrease while still inside the BIOS menu. Also press Ctrl+S in each BIOS tab for any hidden options.

What is the outcome? I'm having the same problem on the Acer Aspire 3 A315-23, when it starts in the BIOS it has the fans at maximum.

Thread is over a year old and for a different model. Best to start your own new thread by clicking on the green new post or ask a question button. Generally, it is normal for fan speed go ramp up to full speed on startup or within the BIOS menu for a few moments. Then slows down after a while when Windows is done loading.
