Hi I brought a Acer Nitro 5 running win11 and only had 512gb of storage so I've installed a Samsung 980 (non-pro) 1tb and I've checked the bios and does show up correctly but windows isn't recognising it or can't find. I've spoken to Acer support on the phone and was recommended to do a factory reset wiping everything and was wondering if theres is another way as not on a big internet plan and will probably couple weeks to recover all my programs, games and music. Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Cheers

What is the exact Nitro 5 model number it should be AN515-xx as the 980 M.2 SSD should work even if your Nitro 5 models M.2 slots are not PCIe 4x4 M.2s.

There are a few requirements for a hard drive to be available in File Explorer. The device must be online and initialized. It needs to have a partition properly configured. And it has to have a drive letter assigned, or it should be mounted as a folder.

If you are dealing with any of these problems, the steps below will help you to troubleshoot and fix the most common issues with Disk Management.

    Set drive online

    1. To bring a hard drive online, use these steps:
    2. Open Start.
    3. Search for Disk Management and click the top result to open the app.

Right-click the disk with the "Offline label" and select the Online option.

After you complete the steps, if the hard drive was offline and previously configured, it should appear in File Explorer. If the storage was offline but never configured, continue with the steps below.

Initialize drive - To initialize a hard drive on Windows 10, use these steps:

    1. Open Start.
    2. Search for Disk Management and click the top result to open the app.
    3. Right-click the disk with the "Unknown" label and select the Initialize Disk option.
    4. Under the "Select disks" section, check the drive you want to initialize.
    5. Select the "GPT (GUID Partition Table)" option.
    6. Click the OK button.

That is all that you have to do, as all new drives have to be installed this way, I've upgraded my 512GB oem M.2 drive on my Nitro 5 AN51557 with a faster WD SN1TB SN750 M.2 SSD and this is what i did and it works 100%

The drive needs a partition to be seen. install partition software or use Windows computer management. The drive is totally blank, so create a partition. it should now show up as a second drive.
My videos show me doing this recently with the 980 pro.
