Okay, so last Saturday night I was in the middle of using my Acer Nio 5 which I've had for about 2.5 years now. I have it normally plugged in on the charger due to the fact that it uses a lot of power when running games and video editing software. One minute, I was in the middle of a game, then suddenly the screen just went black, the computer beeped once in the same tone it does upon force shutdown, and just powered off, no lights, nothing.

Since then, I've tried following every guide on the web I can find, and before you ask, I've done a battery reset, AC cord reset, and even took it to a technician to check and see if the charger still works. We came down to the conclusion that the charger does output 19V when its not under load, but as soon as it is plugged into the laptop it outputs nothing. I have also been told that the Battery looks to be fine, just dead flat.

We have got another charger on the way, but just in case it doesn't work, I've decided to come here and ask: Does anyone have any other solutions I could try?

Cheers,

I would get a new battery too as it was depleted, and you won't be able to charge it anymore. 2.5 years is not too bad for a battery that was charged with a broken adapter. 😉

Hi @Puraw thanks for the reply,

Yep, I think that'll be my next port of call should the new charger not work. I think the adapter only conked it Saturday night coming to think about it.

    UPDATE:

Ok, so new charger has turned up, and comes with a green light on the power adapter to show it is working, which is handy. However, the moment I plugged it in, the charger light on the brick began flickering…

So… does this mean that the Laptop needs a new battery? or can I now find a way to turn the laptop on without the battery plugged in?

Any advice would be most helpful.

  • No. This suggests a short to the 19v voltage. I would have a technician check both input mosfets. I'm sure the voltages are oscillating on these pins, from his report:

I would have a technician check the two input MOSFETs:
