Hi I noticed recently with some programs I was using that my CPU seems to be hitting 100% usage.

Due to this, I wanted to ask what Processors are compatible with the model of computer I have so that I may look into upgrading the Computer?

THE PC is: Predator PO3-640

The Motherboard is a: Predator PO3-640 (U3E1)

The current processor is: 12th Gen Intel Core i5-12400F

Here is all the info that you will need for all the upgrade options and Acer specs for a CPU/M.2/RAM upgrades and all that is involved with such an upgrade. The upper spec PO3-640 comes with the i7-12700F Acer part #: KC.12701.FI7 that is an. Alder Lake- Socket LGA 1700 - .2.10 GHz to max turbo 4.90 GHz frequency. - 12 Cores/20 Thereads Total L2 Cache 12MB and at TDP-65W type CPU that this desktop is advisable to be upgraded to (don't upgrade to the i9-12900K or KF as it won't work with this mobo)

Also I would advise that you upgrade the CPU cooling to the much more efficient Noctua NH-U9S chromax.black type cooler as that fits perfectly into the restricted spaces around your CPU and I would also advise that you increase your RAM to at least 32GB total at either 2x 16GB DDR4-32000MHz dual channel or to the 4x 8GB DDR4-3200Mhz type RAM as listed below (as quad channel RAM is better imo than dual channel) also this desktop comes with an M.2 NVMe drive that I would upgrade to a better type and like either a Samsung 980 Pro or the WD NS850 Black that are far superior to what you get OEM from Acer.

All the above upgrades will make your desktop perform at least 200% better than your existing desktop and will solve your 100% CPU usage and also make your NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060Ti 8GB GDDR6 be utilized perfectly for gaming and editing and all the high-end tasks that you may need, not that your OEM PO3-640 with the i5-12400Fdesktop is not a high-quality PC. Good luck and hope this helps you out in your task to understand what is involved👍

Below are all the OEM Acxer PO3-640 SG memory specs:

This is the memory module population combinations that should be followed:

The biggest CPU you can drop in is the i9-12900F. You could also use a i9-12900 without the F, but since there's no video populated on the MB there's no reason to spend the extra money (the F doesn't have a GPU in the processor). You aren't likely to see much performance difference though, we'd be better off to discover what's maxing out your CPU. What are the other specs on your system? Memory size and speed, drive type and size? What are you running for an antivirus? Still the default trial? What apps or games seem to trigger the high usage?

Hey im considering swapping my i5-12400f with a i5-13600kf. But im unsure if it will fit the motherboard, and even if it does, will the 500W psu in PO3 640 be able to handle it?

And if it cant, I can also not find a replacement PSU since its a very limited kind.

No you can't jump generations. You can go from an i5-12400F to an i7-12xxxF or i9-12xxxF. If you try a K model you will have to revamp the cooling, since the K's have a higher TDP.

You can put it in without any functional issue. If you put it in the second M.2 slot instead of the first it will run at PCIe 3.0 speeds instead of full speed. I believe the slot between the GPU and CPU is the main one, the one back behind the memory sticks is the second.

Sure. Just clone the old drive to the new, remove the old drive and boot from the new so the EFI tables are updated, then put the old drive back in, and reformat as a data drive.

Youtube has many videos how to do this depending on the software you use for cloning. But if your new drive is made by Samsung, you can use their free Data Migration tool.

If your desktop doesn't boot with the 13th Gen cpu then its not compatible, forget what Acer customer support said as they advised you wrongly, as your PO3-640 has an Intel B660 chipset mainboard that does work with a 13th Gen cpu but it needs an appropriate and special bios update to to work with the new i5-13400F cpu, which Acer haven't provided and done, hence and why your PO3-640 mainboard doesn't work with the new i5-13400F cpu. Sorry but if you want this new i5-13400F to work then you need to change the mainboard as Acer will not provide a new bios for the PO3-640 for the 13th Gen cpu's to work.

Umm.. but why? Are you after lower power consumption and temps?

12700f is faster in multi- and singlethreaded apps according to the few comparisons I checked. Even the games perform better, although in most cases the performance was almost identical. What am I missing here?

Can I use the thermalright peerless assassin 120 in this computer or do i need to do something with the backplate or is it enough with swom longer screws or should I use the noctua nh-u9s

    Not absolutely sure, but…

Someone please prove me wrong, but since the case is quite small I doubt that any cooler with 120mm fan(s) will fit. Just get Noctua.
