Hello,

My GF's laptop, AN515-54, is rated for 144HZ. However, when it is set to that, the screen dies, and only displays a thin horizontal line on the top edge of the screen. At 60HZ it displays normally. This issue is also in BIOS, making it impossible to use the BIOS. Has anyone else had this issue or a potential fix? Acer support wants 700 dollars before they even reply to my email.

Set the refresh rate at 60Hz (default) and either select the dynamic or fixed refresh option. Windows 11 supports high refresh rate displays.

Sorry, did you read my post? Like at all? I want to get into BIOS. The screen is failing at 144hz which is its default, bios setting. 60Hz is not the default. 144 is.

The only reasons why your monitor will not work at 144Hz refresher rate and works at 60Hz is because there must be some hardware components that are faulty like either the eDP cable and plugs or the screen. To make sure that this is the case, you need to open your laptop and check the eDP cable connections to the screen and mainboard at its plugs, as this cable has a data and power fine cables and if a data strand of the cables is damaged or has disconnected from this eDP cables plugs then you will experience a none working image, and if you are getting a thin line at 144Hz and your bios image doesn't work then its definitely the eDP cable or its plugs that are either not plugged in properley or the data or power cables are faulty and needs inspecting and/or replacing (see cable below for your laptop) .

Get a technician to diagnose your laptops eDP cable/plugs and 144Hz screen and even the gpu, to see if your laptop has any faults created by these components of your laptop.

Btw, your laptops 144Hz refresher rate model screens which are model numbers; NV156FHM-N4K or the LP156WFG(SP)(F3) which has a 40-pin video connector can also be upgraded to the 165Hz refresh rate screen for smoother motion & gaming, just for your information if you need to change the screen, I would upgrade to this superior screen also.

Thank you for the info, especially the part numbers. I have checked the cables, more than once. Amzn has cables for about 15 so I will likely try that first. Do you have a model number for that 165hz screen by chance?

The 165Hz screen is an upgrade to the 144Hz refresher rate screens for your laptop, with these screen models NV156FHM-N4K or the LP156WFG(SP)(F3) on the LS Laptop Screens site (they don't give part numbers for the 165Hz screen) so follow those two screens as you can add the Matte IPS, 1080p, 165Hz Refresh rate screen for $88.99+$11.00 = $99.99 option when you buy one of those screens, and these screens are all plug and play, as your laptop has the 40-pin video connector and its just a matter of taking the screen bezel off then pulling the double sided tape tabs off from the back of the old screen until the old screen detaches from the laptop top cover and then retaping the new 165Hz screen and plugging the eDP cable/plugs to the screen and the mainboard screen 40-pin video connector and you have a 165Hz screen, its as simple as that.
