How do I approach applying thermal pads on my Acer Nitro 5 AN515-43-R3TY?

This is what the interals of my laptop looks like:

Do I buy any 1-2 USD thermal pads and apply them on the sections that have old thermal pads? Of course, excluding the CPU and GPU die.

That is a real mess, don't put so much paste on your laptop like that! You need to first clean all that old pad paste or pad material off and also clean the cpu and gpu paste off completely, and then buy the K5 PRO Viscous Thermal Paste and for the cpu/gpu buy the Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme paste and put the pad paste on the same spots where your AN515-43 has pad thermal material and on the cpu/gpu also, you only need enough pad paste so that the paste touches the thermal module and its the same with the cpu/gpu paste too.
