Predator Helios 18 (PH18-71) Won’t Turn On

Hi Acer Community,

My new Predator Helios 18 laptop shut off unexpectedly by itself while I was watching a film and now will not turn on at all. I only got it two months ago for quite a large amount of money and I really need it for work so this is obviously enormously frustrating.

Does anyone have any advice as to what I can do? I have already tried disconnecting all peripherals and disconnecting it from the wall but to no avail. Truly awful experience.

First try to do a Soft Battery Reset, by making sure that the laptop is turned off completely and press the power key for 10 seconds and then letting the power key go and then waiting 1 min and then try to reboot the laptop by pressing the power key again and see if the laptop turns on.

If the above doesn't work, then you have a choice of doing a hard reset or sending your laptop to Acer Support in your country. If it was my laptop, I would first ask Acer in your country if a Hard Reset would void your warranty first.

The hard reset consists of removing fourteen (14) screws from the base cover then opening the back laptop cover and then disconnecting and taking the main battery out, then disconnecting the RTC/BIOS battery from its mainboard plug shown in caption below, then at plug A, short pins red + & black - to reset CMOS then taking the ram modules out, leave the laptop disconnected like that for 5 min and reconnect everything, as after all this your laptop should reboot perfectly, if it doesn't then you have some faulty power circuitry issues internally within this new laptop and you need to send the laptop to Acer Support in your country.

    Hi Steven,

Thanks for your response. I have tried the soft reset but it unfortunately didn’t work. Do you have any idea if I can do the hard reset in the UK without voiding my warranty? Would like to give it a go as I’d rather avoid having to ship it out!

    Thanks again!

I recommend sending the laptop to Acer Services to check this out while your laptop is still under Acer warranty.
