Hi Can you please tell me how I can find out what the fastest compatible cpu is for my laptop?

I have never used a forum and have no idea where or how to post my question so I apologise if this is in the wrong place.

Thanks in advance.

@itsafultimejob the best CPU for your model is the Core 2 Duo T9300 according to this site https://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_%28chipsets%29/GL40_Express.html

You have the right place, though it might have a bit more coverage posting in the Legacy Laptops section. You have either the Mobile Intel PM45 or GM45 Express Chipset. The CPUs supplied with those models were 35W Socket P, so theoretically they should support the Core 2 Duo T9900. Replacing the CPU will do very little toward making the computer any faster though. You should always start with replacing the HDD with a SSD, then maxing out the memory before going the CPU route.

@AnhEZ28 Thanks for the reply, I thought so too but wondered if there was anything faster that I had missed so thought I would ask to be sure.

Thank you, is there any way to be sure that the Core 2 Duo T9900 would be compatible? Would there be a problem with the 1066 MHz FSB compared to the original at 800? (The Core 2 Duo T9300 is also only 800 fsb). I have already maxed the memory at 4 gig and replaced the hdd with a ssd. These both obviously made a difference and now I would like to do the best I possibly can with the cpu.

You will see almost no discernible difference between the two CPUs. Go ahead and stick with what is known good, unless they are cheap enough to experiment with.

As I only have the stock celeron 900 atm I wanted to go straight to the fastest possible cpu but if I can't get a definite answer on the 9900 I think I'll go with the 9300 because at least with that one I can see others have used it.

    Thanks.
