Hello, i have an acer predator 17 g5 793. I was watching a youtube video when the screen suddenly turned off while the laptop was still running. I shut it down using the power button but when i turned it on it wont turn on. The screen doesnt turn on either. It keeps restarting, the predator intro plays and keyboard flashes again and again. The screen is fine because i put it for a while and the screen did turn on once to show the predator logo and the whole restart loop came back and the screen turned off again. Can anybody help me with this issue?

The screen is fine because i put it for a while and the screen did turn on once to show the predator logo

What does "because I put it for a while" mean?

Does the predator logo still always show on startup?

Or does the logo only show once in a while on startup?

It means I gave it some rest. No the predator logo doesnt show because it restarts even before that. Update 1: after turning it on after the rest it tried to auto repair itself. The screen turned on and it went into auto repair mode however after diagnosis the screen turned off and it went back to the restart loop. Update

OK. Turn it off. Give it another rest. Then turn it back on and IMMEDIATELY start tapping the F2 key till the BIOS menu appears. Please post a phone photo of the first page of the BIOS menu if possible.

Do a Hard Reset by taking the back cover off, main battery, RTC/BIOS battery (then short the RTC/BIOS battery at its + & - pins at mainboard plug) and take the ram out, wait for 15min then reconnect all components, as all this resets the Super IO, BIOS and the Chipset chips and your laptop should not have those screen off issues again.

If your laptop still turns its screen off mid-way through a video, update the NVidia graphics driver, install the GeForce Experience software and make sure that all the Intel drivers are up to date (install the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant) especially the latest Intel graphics driver. as this should not be happening, if all this does not fix your issues then there is something either wrong with your eDP cable/plugs that is either damaged and shortening out at the screen, that needs an experienced tech to diagnose, as a user like you can't do nothing and you need to send your laptop to either Acer support or take your laptop to an experienced technician in your area.

G5-793 parts that you might need:

This laptop has an LCD 17.3” see its part number on the back if you need the screen replaced, as these are the specs and model number; its an (FHD, None Glare) screen with Display resolution (pixels) 1920x3(RGB)x1080 and Model number: LG LP173WF4-SPF2 60Hz refresher rate, which is a 30 pin video connector and can't be upgraded to any higher refresher rate screen like a 144Hz or 165Hz.

The screen didnt turn off by itself in bios(i stayed there for 5mins) as it did last time when i kept it at desktop for 2 minutes however after saving changes it turned off on the restart and the restart loop came back.

Reboot and when you see the Predator logo press Alt+F10, this will get you to the blue Troubleshoot screen, select advanced and Restart>F4 or 4>Safe Mode. In Safe mode check if the system remains stable, when you have no screen issues uninstall your Display drivers with DDU (in Safe Mode) and reboot, Windows will reinstall the best display adapters.

OK. Go back into the BIOS menu. Then click on the MAIN tab. Do any hidden options appear when you press Ctrl+S ?

Does the screen stay on for about 15 minutes in the BIOS menu? Does the screen still stay on in the BIOS menu even if you move the lid back & forth a little bit?

No not 15 minutes, 5-7 minutes, which is a little more longer than on desktop but it does turns off eventually in the bios too(this happened once at least). No, moving the lid does not affect it.

Sounds like the CPU is overheating. When was the last time the thermal module, fans, heatsinks & processors were cleaned and re-pasted? This is considered normal maintenance and should be done annually if the machine was heavily used especially for gaming and video apps.

I applied the thermal paste 3 months ago. Are you sure it doesnt have anything to do with gpu as the laptop runs while the screen turns off and external display receives no

Yes, I'm sure. The BIOS screen should be using the Intel CPU's integrated GPU, NOT the nvidia discrete GPU.

Accordingly, I still suspect the Intel CPU is overheating. What paste did you use? How did you apply it? Did you clean fan blades & heat ducts on the thermal module?

Yes i clean the fan ducts. I cleaned the old past using IPA and then applied the new one, i use arctic silver 5. I reapplied the paste today and it still didnt make a difference. What do you suggest apart from changing the mobo? I unfortunately dont have acer service centres in my country. I really appreciate your help.

Was there a specific reason for doing this 3 months ago?

Not really, i was cleaning it and applied the paste as part of the general maintenance as the old one was there for 9-10 months

Ig on the night of 24th july. I was using the laptop as i do, nothing specific. Although a day or two before it, one time when i tried to turn it on, the lights would just turn on(the signal lights for display and processing) and the laptop wont turn on at all like no cpu, fan noise or anything. I put it aside for the night and it turned on fine in the morning but after few hours some of the buttons on keyboard stopped working. This has happened before too.(the windows button doesnt work, sometimes it does when i press it for a long time or press it rapidly for a few times, delete stopped working after that and then these random buttons like s, o,i,u etc stopped this time) The laptop still worked fine though. Then at night when i was using it casually, the screen turned off. I didnt use it for an extended amount of time or with heavy applications, just chrome with 2,3 tabs. I tried resetting through the pinhole it didnt work.-321-5841582

Update: Okay so i got it fixed finally. The problem was some humidity got into motherboard. The repair guy got it washed and dried with a heatgun but a part got damaged (ic or something) which he replaced and now its running fine. Thankyou for your help still.
