New (Refurbished) Acer Spin 714 Chromebook freezes right out of the box

I recently purchased an Acer Recertified Spin 714 Chromebook (Model CP714-1WN-53M9) directly from Acer Recertified (through their eBay storefront). I've purchased several other models through Acer Recertified over the last few years, and this is the first time I've encountered an issue. I received the unit two days ago, and from the moment I started the setup process, the Chromebook began to freeze intermittently — even before I set up wifi, and before I added my Google account (it also dropped my wifi during set up). The only way I was able to get the screen (and cursor) to unfreeze was either to close the screen lid and reopen it (it would blink and turn black, and then reload my screen at which point it was no longer frozen), or I would need to power down by holding down the power button for several seconds. Afterwards, the screen would freeze again after several seconds (randomly), and I would need to repeat the process to get the Spin 714 to unfreeze again.

I managed to update my ChromeOS to the latest version, but it didn't help. I did try powerwashing (twice), and the same freezing issue occurred. It's curious that the freezing issue occurs right after a powerwash, before an account is even added. I did notice too, that once (and only once), the Chromebook was able to go a stretch of several minutes and not freeze (which gave me hope). I was able to watch an entire 10 minute YouTube video, and surf the web a bit. I thought that hopefully the issue went away, and I restarted to make sure everything was functioning ok, and the freezing started again. It's almost like once in a blue moon it works, but 95% of the time, it doesn't. Definitely not normal.

I've also tried using a different Acer power supply from one of my other Acer Chromebooks (in case the PS was bad), and also tried using a different surge protector (thinking that maybe it could be an issue, although it works fine with my other Chromebooks….and I tried in two different locations in my house, with two different surge protectors). Nothing seemed to help.

I am looking at returning the unit for a refund, but I wondered if there's anything I could try, or if this is a known issue? Thanks for your help!
