I want to upgrade ssd of my Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45(Ryzen 5 5600H, RTX 3050).

I was looking at WD SN770 black PCie gen4 ssd, and it cost significantly less, does my laptop support gen4 SSD? or will it downgrade itself to gen3?

The SSD photo is attached for your reference.

"NO" the AN515-45 is a PCIe 3x4 M.2 drive laptop and the WD SN770 Black is a PCIe 4 x4 drive and your laptop won't utilize the speed of the Gen 4 drive, Get the WD SN750 PCIe 3 x4 as that is one of the quickest and best Gen 3 PCIe drives and your laptop will utelize that drive perfectly and its better than the SN770.

    Thank you for the reply.
The SSD you suggested has been out of stock for a while; I can only get WD BLUE SN570. Should I get that or wait for SN750(idk when it will come back in stock).
So the SN770 won't even be detected on my laptop, right? I thought it will just give me gen3 speeds and the SSD would benefit me for the long run.

The WD SN750 Black is the WD top PCIe 3x4 gaming M.2 SSD and has the boost setting within the WD Dashboard "Gaming Mode" while the WD SN570 is just their ordinary M.2 SSD PCIe 3x4 drive, seing that you have a gaming laptop I would wait for the WD SN750 Black, btw I'm using the WD SN750 Black in my Nitro AN515-56 and its a fantastic M.2 Drive with the gaming boost, so I'm speaking from personal experience.

Okay, bro. Really appreciate the response. I will see what I can do.
Just a question to clear my mind, SN770 won't even be detected on my laptop, right? Or will it downgrade to gen3? I ordered it last night now I will cancel it.
Do you have any other suggestions for SSD? or is WD the best?
Once Again thank you for your time.

Not a problem bro, glad to help you out, the WD SN770 will work and be detected in tyour laptop but it will run at PCIe 3 x4 read/write speeds and not Gen 4 x4 read/write speeds that are twice as fast, as these PCIe M.2 drives are all backward compatible and will work on in any speed PCIe slot.

The best PCIe 3 x4 M.2 SSDs suitable for your laptop are ae either the Samsung 970 Plus or the WD SN750 Black these are proven gaming M.2 drives and specially designed for gaming, especially the WD SN750 Black that has a specific software called Dashboard that has a Gaming Mode for the SN750 Black or the SN770 Black or the SN850 Black M.2 drives that the latter two are all Gen 4 x4 lane M.2 drives.

OKAY OKAY. I will see now what to do, either cancel my order for SN770 and wait for SN750 or just use that 770 until I get a new laptop that supports gen4(long term😂)

    Thank you once again.
    Really appreciate it, my friend.

Hi i'm newbie here, i just want to upgrade my RAM and SSD for my AN515-45, any recommendation?

and i saw this Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen 3.0 and Patriot Signature Line Series DDR4 16GB (1 x 16GB) 3200MHz SODIMM (1 Rank Single-Sided Module) is this compatible? Thank you

  • The Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD drive is the fastest and best and most compatible PCIe3x4 drive for your Nitro AN515-45 laptop, Samsung drives are very good quality and durable and have their inhouse softare that makes them perform very well and very efficiently, so be aware of that, yopu pay a bit more but they are worth it.

Also and with ram, the 1x 16GB DDR4-3200MHz module that you want to buy, you need to make sure that its CL22. if you want to upgrade the ram of this gaming laptop, then always upgrade to DUAL CHANNEL which with 16GB modules you upgrade to 2x 16GB DDR4-3200MHz CL22 type ram for a total of 32GB. As especially gaming laptops perform much better and faster in dual channel than single channel, so if you only install a 1x 16GB DD4-3200MHz ram module you will have only single ram and it will be an inferior ram upgrade.

These are the Acer ram specs and suggested ram modules for your Nitro AN515-45 laptop:

If you want 16GB total ram for your laptop then use the 2x 8GB DDR4-3200Mhz CL22 type ram like highlighted below, as these ram modules are compatible and will work 100% with your AN515-45 laptop, if you want 32GB total then use the 2x 16GB DDR4-3200MHz modules below:

If you do allot of gameing, install the 2x 16GB DDR4-3200MHz CL22 Hynix or Samsung ram, if you don't game allot and/or video edit then just run 16GB total ram and just add another 1x 8GB DDR4-3200MHz ram and match the 1x 8GB DDR4-3200MHz oem ram that you have, to do that, install CPUz and have a look at the specs of the existing ram and match that ram exactly or with the listed 8GB modules above.

Your Nitro 5 Gaming Laptop model AN515-45-R6XD can be upgraded to the detailed specs that I've written above very clearly and successfully, your Nitro 5 has an AMD Ryzen™ 5600H cpu @ normal speed of 3.30 GHz and a max turbo speed of 4.20 GHz / a GeForce RTX™ 3060 gpu with vram of 6GB and comes with only 8GB DDR4-3200MT/s CL22 type ram and an Acer oem 512GB M.2 SSD that I would increase to either 1TB r 2TB as a boot drive for quicker performance, as Acer only fits oem a mid range M.2 speed SSD drive..

If you game I suggest that you upgrade the ram to a min of 16GB DDR4-3200MT/s CL22 type ram but realistically i suggest that you should have this laptops max 32GB @ 2x 16GB DDR4-3200MT/s CL22 type ram installed (see Crucial ram upgrade for the AN515-45 and follow their ram specs suggested and buy their ram) then add a quick boot M.2 SSD PCIe Gen.3x4 drive like the Samsung 970 EVO Plus, which btw I've been using for years and its an excellent drive for gaming and its also a very reliable M.2 SSD drive that I can recommend 100% as I've used this drive in my Nitro 5 AN515-56 with no problems.

Also make sure that you have Win-11 24H2 OS build 26100.3037, install the last bios version 1.11 and the Firmware that Updates the Nvidia discrete VGA VBIOS and improve performance. - dated: 2021/05/25 - version: v102a, then make sure that you play all supported gamed s through the NVidia GeForce Experience software and keep this laptops RTX3060 gpu up to date through this software.

Do all the above and your AN515-45 will be a very useful and a mid to high end gaming platform to enjoy for also editing and web scuffing. Good luck and enjoy your Acer product.

Thank you for your help :D

I have other basic question, once I update the rams, do I need to reinstalled the Operative system W11?
