E5-576G Display will not turn back on when opening lid

I have sleep and hibernate turned off on my Laptop. When I open the lid, the display will not turn back on. The power light is on, and the keyboard backlighting turns on. No combination of keys will turn the display on, and I have to hold the power button down until the laptop powers off, then power it back on to get the screen to come back on. I am running BIOS/Firmware 1.49 (The latest). This was an issue when I first bought the laptop, but cleared up itself after a couple months. It has reared its ugly head again. Acer support is useless. Any ideas?

    Don't turn off Sleep, just turn off hibernate (Windows default setting). The default setting for both opening and closing the lid is often set by vendors to do nothing, so you have to activate: Opening the lid settings in advanced Powe Settings. If you do not have this option in your power settings it has been hidden, see this link how to unhide;

    BTW, these power functions are very confusing in Windows and Sleep mode may result in hibernate depending on the S1-S3 setting in BIOS, I recommend not to touch these "Modern-Standby" settings in your BIOS and use the default Power Plan settings of Windows and also leave your Power Button function to what it was set to originally by Acer. Most Acer laptops have an integrated sleep button (or function key). Normally to Resume from hibernate you press the Power Button if that function has not been changed. You cannot tell if a laptop is completely shutdown or hibernates as all LED lights are off in both cases. Also recommend disabling Fast Startup in Windows11.

    I'm on windows 10. I have unhid and checked actions for lid open and they are set for turn display on. As I said, this happened when I first bought this laptop 2 years ago. after a while it quit doing it. recently, it started again. there is a power and charge light on the front. while plugged in, power and charge lights both stay on. when I open the lid, both lights are still on, backlighting for the keys comes on, but no display. hitting any key, or combo of keys does nothing. Hitting the power button doesn't do anything either, unless I hold it until the power light goes out, then I hit the power button again and it reboots.

    Reset Windows Power Plan to factory resets, use Balanced Power Plan instead of Acer's custom power plan may help. Reset BIOS (F9 key in BIOS) and save settings on exit is worth trying. If all that fails, do the Hard Reset method with a pin in the pinhole at the back of your laptop. You can reset CMOS and BIOS by opening the laptop, disconnecting the battery cable and taking the coin battery out of the CMOS capsule, then shorten the +/- contacts inside the CMOS capsule with a short wire or bended paperclip, put the coin battery back in with the + sign up and press the power button continuously for a minute. There are many threads about these methods on this forum.

    Have you done this?

    Try the above, if that doesn't work then your laptop has a faulty lid sensor magnet (which is a magnetic switch that reacts to a magnet in the bezel) that was faulty when your laptop was new, and you should have got Acer to fix the problem under warranty.

    The switch is a magnetic sensor activated by a magnet in the LCD bezel. The power from the motherboard to the Inverter, is cut off when the Display Switch Module is depressed. Use a magnet and swipe it around the outside bezel (its around the hinge) of your laptop. You should feel when the magnet reacts to the one in the cover. Now you have the position in the lid. Move the lid to the close position, wherever the magnet position of the LCD cover meets the bottom case, that is where the sensor should be located. That sensor magnet is faulty on your laptop since new, that is the problem.

    yes, have set the action to turn on display on lid open. ACER told me there was nothing they could do and refused to fix it under warranty. kept wanting me to reinstall windows at the time which I did multiple times.

    when it didn't fix it, I was told that it "must be something I have done in the windows setup"

    Used a strong Neodymium magnet and went slowly around the bezel of the display. Didn't find anything it was attracted to. So moved it around the edge of the laptop base where the display bezel meets it and no effect there. When I close the display, At about a 1" gap at the front, the display goes out. When I open, about 1/4" of movement the display comes back on. if I wait 5 minutes or longer with the display off, when I reopen it, the keyboard backlights come back on, but the display still stays black power button doesn't bring it back etc. ran the magnet around while still blacked out and across the hinges top and bottom, and no change. Guess its just apiece of ***** that Acer didn't want to warranty while it was new. $800.00 waste. Acer will no longer be in any of my computing choices again

    Your laptop does not have a specific part that is described in its service guide for a sensor on the lid, just as an example my Nitro 5 laptop works perfectly and in Sleep mode, I close the lid and whenever I open the lid the screen comes on and I login to Win-11.

    My suggestion above was because I thought that it might have a magnet which allot of laptops have. Its very unfortunate that this happened as its not a common thing and it should have been fixed. Although your laptop is 5 years old and may have a bad lid switch, IMO it is a firmware or Power Setting issue, you may have conflicts in the advanced power settings, time to sleep and Sleep actions (unattended and attended) for lid are mentioned in different Power Plan screens, make sure they are synced (all have the same values). There was another post last week with a similar issue that was resolved resetting the Power Plan to factory defaults. I am on a brand-new laptop and my lid closing and opening cause erratic results.
