Horizontal gray patch problem with Acer AL1716W LCD monitor

Hi there,

I have an Acer AL1716W LCD monitor. Which have worked fine since long time but just yesterday when I turned the computer on, I saw horizontal gray patch on screen that keeps flickering.

Someone told me it may be moisture, but this never happened before, not matter what I do, it's not going away.

The monitor turns itself off then I connect CPU cable and run the desktop and the windows opens but as you try to do some task, the monitor shuts down.

I disconnected the CPU cable and only plugged in the power cable for monitor and it still shows the same patch.

Please help me.

Unplug all cables including power. Long press & hold power button for one minute. Plug in power cable. With PC turned off, plug GPU cable in. Short press power button to turn monitor on first. Wait about a minute. Then turn PC on.

I tried it but it did not work. Still getting same grey horizontal patch on screen.

It's a transparent grey patch

Does the monitor still shut down when you try to do some task? Does it say "no signal" before it shuts down?

No, it stopped doing that the next day after I put it in a dry place. It works but there is a constant horizontal gray patch visible that just won't go away. There is a line above patch the flickers, like some fluctuation, but the monitor works for hours as I run it without any shut down.

It worked like this even before I did the steps you suggested. There is no effect.

I am able to turn off and turn on the monitor with press of power button.

Can you post a phone photo of the opening tab in the PC's BIOS menu as it appears on the monitor screen?

Sure. Another thing I would like to point out is there was little loosing CPU cable connected to monitor, sometimes I would experience diagonal flickering on screen which would go away after I adjusted the cable so it would not hang freely.

Temporarily change BIOS Init Display First from PCI(dGPU card) to Onboard PciExpressGraphics(iGPU). Then shutdown. Then turn it back on and re-enter the BIOS menu. Post another phone photo of the entire opening BIOS screen using the iGPU.

I did it and there isn't any difference.

As I explained, even without CPU cable, this is the issue I'm getting just by plugging in power cable to monitor.

It has nothing to do with GPU

OK. Still keep the BIOS temporarily in iGPU mode. Then run this PixelTest in full screen mode for about 15mins. Then check for shaded patch again.

I tried it but stilll nothing happened.

I ran the test for nearly an hour, zero changes in the grey patch.

Then it's likely the monitor's internal LCD video cable connector contacts are contaminated or partially oxidized. I suggest trying to re-seat the LCD cable connector to the monitor's mainboard to help clean the contacts. Unfortunately, the monitor's pedestal mount & back cover must be removed to access the cable.

Contaminated LCD connector contacts are my best guess from the symptoms & tests run here. Re-seating the connector a dozen or so times should help clean the contacts and fix the issue. But not 100% guaranteed.

I'm thankful for your help. One more thing I would like to add.

After repeating the steps you told me,I reset the Init display back to 8MB and I tried to run some graphic intensive programs like video games.

And I'm experiencing sudden shutdown unexpectedly. The window just shuts down itself when running games, but nothing happens when watching video or anything.
