My acer nitro 5 isn’t booting and only the keyboard lights are on. I wanted to replace the old 8gb ram stick and I thought that was the problem. I bought 2 8GB ram sticks from Amazon. Hynix 8GB PC4-21300 DDR4-2666MHz 260-Pin SODIMM 1.2V Single Rank Memory Module HMA81GS6CJR8N-VK https://a.co/d/9412UHj. I replaced the old ram stick with one new ram stick to test if the problem still occurs and it still happens. I don’t know what is causing the problem.

When you upgrade your laptops ram to another and the same ram module spec like you have done and you have added an additional 8GB ram module, you need to add the 2nd ram module to be the same and exact spec as the 8GB module that is in your laptop and that worked 100%

Install CPUz and see in this software's Memory and SPD section the exact 8GB ram module specs that is working in your laptop and then match that exact specs of that ram to the new ram module kit that you buy, as that is what you haven’t done and that is why your laptop is not booting and working, remember that installing the wrong ram is why a PCs does not boot.

This is the Acer Nitro AN515-51 ram specs for your laptop

Does the dimm speed on the new 2 8gb ram sticks work with my laptop?

The DDR4 modules you bought are OK for your model and the fact that the keyboard LEDs are working indicate that power is provided. Which suggests a hardware issue. Do the Power Drain and system/BIOS reset procedure first and if that doesn't work, bring your laptop to Acer Services in your country for checking.

The power drain method is described in previous posts (browse this forum, all boards) and involves disconnecting the battery, take out the coin battery and shorten the +/- CMOS contacts inside the capsule with a short wire or bended paper clip to drain any residual currents and reset BIOS and replace the CMOS coin battery with the + sign up. Push down the power button key for 2 minutes and reconnect the main battery.

If the cmos battery is drained out, can I order a replacement? and where can I find it?

Check the compatible ram by doing the Crucial System Scan, as Crucial guarantee their ram upgrade scans and their suggestions for ram upgrades, see a previous scan here of your Acer Nitro 5 AN515-51 RAM & SSD Upgrades.

If its not the ram then it could be a screen issue that either the eDP cable is damaged or its plug has shorted and the screen data is affected and your laptop is not getting an image, see caption below for the AN515-51 cable that you need.

If the eDP cable is damaged, does it cause my laptop to not boot? Or can I plug an hdmi cable to an external monitor to check if there is signal

Should I do the power drain method? If yes, do I need a new cmos battery and where can I get one?
