How to determine whether the battery of Acer - N19W3 : SP513-54N is still good

The battery cannot be charged. Is there a way to determine whether the batter is the problem? The laptop works fine without the battery.

Another thread says there is a button on the motherboard that needs to be pushed to charge the battery but I cannot locate it.

That pinhole on the first picture above is the battery reset switch, when you insert a pin/needle you will feel a faint click, keep the pin depressed for 15 seconds. If that did not resolve the charging issue reset BIOS, press F9 in BIOS and save settings on exit, reboot. Uninstall the 2 battery drivers with Device Manager and reboot.

If still not charging, make a battery report, paste this line in the Command Prompt:
    powercfg /batteryreport /output %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\battery_report.html
Open the report on your Desktop (double click) and check the full charge capacity, if this is near zero replace the battery: https://www.ebay.com/p/10051277258

Thank you very much for all the prompt tips.

That pinhole had been tried many times to no avail. I have just tried it again anyway but it still failed to make any difference.

Unfortunately, the situation has got so bad that the laptop cannot be started as long as the battery is connected. It shows the error message "Critical Low Battery".

Should I disconnect the batter to reset the BIOS. As I mentioned, the computer still works fine when the battery is disconnected.

Does pressing F2 button enter BIO settings?

I reset BIOS but unfortunately, it has not made any difference. I am hoping now that the battery is the culprit and considering replacing it. I just wish that I could ascertain it.

You could try if there is any charge left between the Red and Black contact wires with a very thin test pin and multimeter, but I would bet the voltage is close to zero. If you cannot charge the battery and you cannot test it anymore in Windows, get a new battery (see the eBay link I posted).

@Puraw Thank you for all the tips. My niece replaced the battery and computer worked fine except the charging still did not work. I used my Skydio 2 drone charging adapter to charge the laptop and everything started to work perfectly.

To put a long story short, the chargers are probably the culprit. The original had all kinds of troubles and she bought a brand new not long ago. They can support the running of the laptop but cannot charge the battery.

The following command hangs on this laptop:

    powercfg /batteryreport

I used this command on my two laptops and it generated the reports instantly.

I tried the command twice on this Acer laptop to no avail.

Just in addition, as you may find this video interesting especially in regards to a laptops battery and you want to know how a proper technician determines if a battery is passed its use by date, then have a look at this excellent video on this subject and an Acer laptop titled “Can we fix some laptop batteries just by charging the cells? YES!!!”.

Did you get this 65 watt model power adapter?
    https://www.coywood.co.uk/acer-spin-5-sp513-54-ac-adapter-76602-p.asp
Check the details with your adapter like the thin pin 3mm outside and 1.1mm inside diameter?

You have a problem with your system files if you cannot even run the simple powrcfg command:
Paste these commands (2 separate runs) in the Command Prompt opened as Administrator:
    Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
that should complete successfully if it hangs, press the Escape key and run again.
    SFC /scannow
This will repair your system files and you have to repeat the SFC command till you see "Found no integrity violations".

@Puraw Thank you for the tips. We followed your instructions to fix the problems and rebooted the laptop many times per the prompt during the process but the command still hangs.

I did not write PowerShell, you have to use the Command Prompt in windows.

@Puraw Sorry, but the command came out overnight. Everything appears to be fine now.
