ESP Partition problem on my Acer Aspire 5 A517-53G and strange behaviors

Hello everyone!!!

I recently bought a used Acer laptop Aspire 5 A517-53G. The person who previously owned it told me that they deleted the original ESP partition, the 16MB MSR and the System partition, leaving only the Acer recovery partition and installing Windows from USB formatting everything.
When I turned it on, I tried to install Windows with USB and perform a clean installation. I reached the selection of the disk to install Windows on, and i noticed that no disk was detected. So, I loaded drivers and selected the "RST_V19.1.0.1001_PV" folder that I found on the internet.
Once the drivers were installed, the SSD was recognized, and I noticed that a 100MB ESP partition, a 16MB MSR, the Acer recovery partition, and a data partition were present, so i could install Windows. I knew that ESP partition wasn't the original Acer partition, but one recreated by their Windows installation (I think Acer ESP is normally 200MB).
Once i get into Windows i've installed all the drivers presents on Acer support page for my laptop but sometimes I notice like some strange random behaviors of the laptop, for example it starts to heat up a lot without doing anything with the fans at full speed (maybe it's the GTX 2050 gpu, I saw on the Acer website that there is a bios update that says "1. Update dGPU power state setting." can it be?).
Most of the time the laptop is ok, I even tried stressing it with cinebench and it maxes out at about 65 degrees, however for example if I boot GParted via usb, when I'm in GParted it stays all the time with fans almost at max speed and it heats up a lot, same thing happens when i'm in the Bios.
I tried installing Acer Quick Access and setting the silent mode but it reaches 95 degrees after just 2 seconds of Cinebench, there is something wrong...

Now I wonder:

  1. What problems could I encounter by not having the original Acer ESP partition?

  2. Could resetting the BIOS settings with F9 without the original ESP partition may have affected the non-recognition of the disk in the windows installation and others Live boot cd, or is it unrelated?

  3. (Most Important) I saw on the Acer website that there is a BIOS update available for my laptop. If I install the update, would it resolve the ESP partition problem by overwriting the new original Acer files, or do I risk bricking the laptop without the original partition? (Before that i could expand the partition to 200mb in GParted and set Boot and ESP flags and format everything if necessary, since i don't have any personal files on the laptop)
  4. I've the Acer Recovery partition, could it be useful somehow?

I'm not quite sure what is contained in the ESP partition...

Sorry for the length of the post, if I have forgotten anything, please ask.
Thank you to anyone willing to take the time to help me.

P.S. Booting GParted live, the disk is detected, and I can modify the partitions. But in Acronis Disk Director v12.5, for example, no disk is detected.

I wanted to add that the Acer recovery function doesn't work when pressing F10 or Alt+F10 during startup. It does nothing, the laptop goes straight into Windows.

  • When you reinstalled windows did you delete all partitions? Have you checked the temperatures with hwmonitor?

Alt+F10 gets you to WidowsRE (blue Repair/Troubleshoot screen) that is present on the recovery volume of your boot drive not Windows11 or Acer Care Center apps. Check this link:
    https://www.thewindowsclub.com/no-drives-were-found-during-windows-installation
and create a bootable USB flash drive with this W11 tutorial:
    https://www.elevenforum.com/t/clean-install-windows-11.99/
Don't worry about UEFI formatting or flashing BIOS (may brick the laptop), the clean install W11 method will reformat the drive. If you unsure what to do, bring/send your laptop to Acer Services in your country and they will reset BIOS and reinstall OEM Windows11 for a small service fee ($25 in the Philippines), they may ask for an authorization letter from the previous owner and prove of ownership (bill).

I have already done all that, reinstalled Windows in that way.
But how is it possible that the disk is not being recognized? It happened after I restored the BIOS to default values using F9.

I mean, where does the Windows installation normally look for the disk driver files? (When it detects it without manual installation).
I ask this because I want to know if there were also files in that area for managing the CPU or GPU fans, and if they have been lost.
I notice that the fans are running at a slightly higher speed (especially outside of Windows, for example, GParted Live USB).
I tried installing an external program to control the fans, but it says it doesn't detect the sensor. (It says "NVApi could not initialize or has no sensors")
The temperatures, upon checking again with HWmonitor, are good (between 40 and 68 degrees Celsius max).

I was also interested in the BIOS update because the Acer website mentions: "1. Update dGPU power state setting."
I'm not exactly sure what it does, but perhaps it resolves the power consumption and fan management of the NVIDIA GPU.

  • Can you send a picture of the bios info tab?

Here is a picture of the BIOS. As you can see, the disk is recognized normally in the BIOS and also within Windows. However, it is not recognized outside of Windows (such as during a Windows USB installation, for example).

The BIOS is currently at version 1.16, while version 1.21 is available on the Acer website.

  • OK! Access the bios, go to the main tab, press ctrl+s and disable the vmd controller.

Ok, i did it. After doing that, I encountered a "inaccessible boot device" error upon entering Windows.
So, I reinstalled Windows from the USB, and now the disk is recognized!
(Before reinstalling, i created a 200MB ESP partition in GParted and set the flags to BOOT and ESP.)

Now, the issue remains with the fan management as they run too fast even at around 40 degrees in idle.
Additionally, i noticed that if i perform a heavy task, the fans understandably start spinning even faster, but when i finish and the temperatures drop back to idle, the fans don't slow down. They only slow down instantly (and regulate) if i open the "Acer Care Center" app.

It's as if something is missing for fan management, i'm not sure.

Are there two separate fans for the CPU and GPU?
And if there are two, how can i determine which one is which?
(RPM readings are not available in any hardware monitoring software)

I can't find information regarding the BIOS update on the Acer website.
i only see "1. Update dGPU power state setting," but i'm not sure exactly what it refers to or if it can help with my issue.

In the meantime, thank you for your support!

  • Try updating the bios to the latest version:

That is version 1.07, i am currently on version 1.16.
I see that version 2.00 has just been released, a few days ago there was only version 1.21.
If it's safe to install, I will directly install version 2.00.

  • Try updating the bios to the latest version and the drivers as well.
