laptop constantly freezes up (Nitro AN517-51)
Hello, My laptop constantly freezes up and won't react anymore. Control - alt - del won't work, nor will any other button. So I have to hold the power button to shut the laptop down. It freezes up very randomly, sometimes during a video game, sometimes when booting, sometimes when downloading something, sometimes when installing an updated. Here is what I have tried so far:
- took the laptop to a computer repair place. They said: there is no problem with the hardware
- I upgraded to Windows 11
- reset the whole laptop, removing every file, every software and started all over again.
- Updated every single driver that I could think of.
- Even installed Driver Booster 10 and updated all drivers
- ran every Windows update
- even took the battery out because I thought there is something wrong with it, but no.
So I am really out of ideas now, since I don't even konw if there is anything left that I could try at this point.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Three things to check: Overheating issue, 2.5″ HDD failure and Nivida GTX 16 iGPU card.
Run drive diagnostic freeware like GSmartControl and replace the mechanical HDD with a 2.5" Sata SSD if errors are detected. Monitor temp. don't exceed 95°C. for this 4-year-old CPU. Use a powerful 5-fan 17" cooling pad and reduce the max. processor power state when plugged-in to 95% (advanced Power Plan settings). Clean Boot with the Base Video option in MSConfig and see if that solves the freezing:

Precision X1 freeware will scan and monitor Nvidia GPUs.1 -
Thanks for your reply. I am actually using a colling pad with 2 additional fans. And although it did help my laptops performance it could not solve the freezing issue.
- I installed the Gsmart software as you suggested but it could not provide me any information about my hard disk (see picture).
- My hard drive is a nvme micron 2200 mtfd (SSD?). I thought about replacing it but not sure if it would actually make a difference. You think it might?
- I did change the max. processor power state when plugged-in to 95%, as suggested
- what is the Clean Boot with the Base Video option going to do? and will my software/games perform well with this option?

Solved: It was an overheating issue. There was lot's of dirt/dust in the fan, which we cleaned out. Also the thermal paste was dry. We cleaned it all up and put some new paste on it. Now she runs like a champ. 😎
