Acer AP17C5P battery for Predator Helios 500 PH517-51 model

Brother has Acer Predator Helios 500 PH517-51 model that he bought for over $2500 a few years ago, so isn't that old.

Had a typhoon, and was without power for a week. After power restored. Notebook hooked to power and battery light came on yellow, but then after a short time went to the normal blue usually meaning battery is at full charge. Problem is that nothing happens when power button is pressed. Tried with battery removed, but nothing happens like that.

Have 3 other Acer notebooks that were in under $1000 range, and they all work fine and are much older. They have had batteries replaced over years.

Was thinking the battery might have gone bad in some way that prevents power on, and perhaps this model doesn't work without a working battery? other machines work with battery installed or not. Having a problem finding battery, find it on both amazon and ebay, but all sellers list it as out of stock?? Found some other sites that seem to have it, but have issues with shipping. Sent messages, but no replies yet? When working, it seems a nice computer, but currently is a useless paper weight..

The below list is the charger/adaptors and the battery with the appropriate Acer part numbers that is listed for the Predator Helios 500 PH517-51 model by Acer. I've also included this laptops system power management and system LED light indicators. Try ZANDPARTS for all Acer parts for the PH517-51 laptop.

What I would do is do a Hard Reset first by undoing the back cover and taking the main battery out and disconnecting the RTC/BIOS battery and taking the ram out (if you have 2x ram modules) then after 15min connect the ram moules in reverse and connect all components back again as your laptop should reboot as you might have a frozen Super IO chip or BIOS chip, as if the reset doesn't work then a 5 years old battery is due for a new change to a new battery in a high end gaming laptop.

Went to link, and sent email. Reponse was that battery is out of stock??

Don't know if that is because it is a poor quality battery, or that the number of machines that use it is so low, or perhaps the quality of the machines is so low that they don't last long enough to need a new battery??

My Aspire E1-731 (VAG70_HC_0685_2.29) is much older and still going strong. The Predator was about 4 times the price and is dead at moment. But the E1-731 is going strong. Guess they tried to make a high end gaming machine that brother thought would be a good as the basic notebooks, but looks like he got screwed. Has tons of bells and whistles, but just more things to go wrong.. Got no response from acer direct support, so looks like perhaps will have to move to another brand since Acer doesn't seem to build quality machines now.

    Thanks for info.

First Of all try to power reset, Test with different Power Adapter, and Try to Check The Power jack,

  • Have you tested the power adapter's output with a multimeter?
