Hello! I'm using an aspire 7 ( a715-42g-r9f8) r9f8 with AMD ryzen and RTX 3050 Ti does it support and can it handle a 240Hz monitor? Id' like to use it for gaming and photo/video editing.

Or is it better for me to buy a 165Hz or 144Hz monitor instead? Another thing is, I don't know what HDMI version my laptop supports, can anyone help me figure this out?

Thank s in advanced!😁

    Hello!!

    @Sm025

    While the GPU is capable of delivering 144Hz, the screen itself might only support 60Hz. Only 1 of the 3 screen options available for this model support 144Hz. You apparently have either the AUO or LGD screen. The only way to achieve 144Hz is to change to the INX screen.

    @Sm025 this model has HDMI 2.0 port so you can get a 240Hz monitor (the monitor must have HDMI 2.0 port also, HDMI 1.4 won't work). 240Hz monitor is useful for FPS games. If you don't play any of them, the 165Hz monitor works just fine.

    ooh.. okay, but will it still work if I use a hub/docking station that has a HDMI 1.4 port— can work with, for example a monitor that has a HDMI 1.4?

    @LunaNova14 how do I know which vendor my laptop monitor have? so even if I use another monitor that has a 165Hz or 240Hz, it can't display it there?

    @Sm025 240Hz monitor usually has HDMI 2.0. I'm unsure whether HDMI 1.4 would fully support 144Hz, 165Hz, or not. I used to get a 144Hz monitor with HDMI 1.4 and it would not output 1080p 144Hz unless I created a custom resolution to choose 144Hz.

    @AnhEZ28 Hello again! @AnhEZ28 Thank you for your help. I'm about to buy my second monitor, I just want to know if my laptop can handle 2 monitor displays with a hub? 2 of my coworkers laptops (different brand and model) apparently can only display 1 monitor even if they use a hub. I just want to make sure that mine can before I buy. Thanks again!

    @Sm025 May I ask if the working external monitor from your coworkers is connected via HDMI or USB 3.0 to HDMI? And does it still work if they use USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter only (HDMI connection is not used)?

    They used different connectors like USB A to HDMI, and even tried using their USB-C ports (but like mine, their laptop only supports data transfer and not screen display). One of them found a solution on the manufacturer's help forum, where he downloaded a driver. The other had no luck.

    I'm trying to find out if mine can do dual or triple monitor for both extended and mirrored display (or if there are more types of display). Will be using it for work and gaming purposes, but mainly for work using something like these

    @Sm025 you might try to borrow their USB A to HDMI adapter to test before buying it. It will require downloading a driver in order to work.

    Just in addition and to simplify it for you, the Aspire A715-42-R9F8 LCD OEM Acer fitted screen is either a 60HZ or a 144Hz refresher rate screen, the video connector of the 60Hz LCD screens is a 30 pin and the 144Hz refresher rate only has a 40pin type connector for its screen, this 144Hz screen can be upgraded to an LCD screen of refresher rate 165Hz (see this screen here N156HRA-EA1 REV.C1 as its got an Upgrade Options to a Matte IPS, 1080p, 165Hz Refresh rate screen).

    If you want a 240Hz refresher LCD screen, then you can only achieve that with an external monitor that you can connect to this laptops HDMI port (NOT to the USB-C as its not a Thunderbolt type port and it has NO display output) as there are NO upgrades for this laptop to a higher refresher rate of 240Hz LCD screen for this laptop as its max is 165Hz refresher rate.
