This "flagship" chromebook failed a couple of weeks after the end of its warranty in January, it was unable to charge the battery and in the end wouldn't power on.

The battery was definitely dead so after a while running on the charger without the battery, I decided to buy a replacement and get the thing fixed.

The replacement battery which has the same part number, voltage and current ratings as the original is in.

It charges fine, it passes the diagnostic charge and discharge tests and all looks good.

Right now it is 93% and says 10.07hrs left and when I plug the charger in.. 0.08 until full.

What is wrong with that?

The chromebook won't startup unless the charger is plugged in but then runs fine even when you unplug the charger.

I have powerwashed to no effect.

The hardware reset though (holding refresh and tapping on/off button) does nothing other than stop the chromebook from working at all. The only way to recover from this is to unplug the battery, plug the charger in (flashing orange charge light) plug the battery in (solid charge light) and then start up as usual… on the charger.

Any advice gratefully received.

PS: If you close the screen to make it go to sleep, it recovers and runs as normal on battery

    Still not working properly

I read on another question that the cause may be the charging circuit not having a full profile of the battery and that a complete cycle would fix this.

So I let the battery run down to the point where the chromebook switched itself off. Plugged the charger in (solid orange LED) and then left it to charge. A couple of hours later the LED was blue … full charge.

Disconnected the charger and switched the chromebook on.

NOTHING - totally dead. Plugged in the charger and tried again. Still nothing.

This morning I removed the back cover, disconnected the battery and reconnected it… Nothing. So I disconnected the battery, plugged in the charger (flashing orange LED), let it start to the logon screen and plugged the battery back in, solid blue LED. Then I unplugged the charger and it is working fine on the battery… diagnostics say battery health 98%, 2 cycles, 100% charge and 12 hours left to discharge.

Finally. Shut it down and pressed the on switch… NOTHING plugged in the charger and hey presto it works.

Interestingly the hardware refresh (holding refresh and pressing power button) takes me back to square 1 and I have to pull the battery plug again as above.

Chromeos is the current version, all apps are up to date.

If anyone has any help help I would be most grateful though I am thinking this is a hardware issue.

I read in another thread that one cause may be with the charging circuit not having self calibrated and that a charge cycle would be a good idea.

I let the chromebook discharge until it shut itself down. Plugged the charger in - solid yellow LED. A couple of hours later solid blue LED.

Unplugged the charger and pressed the power switch. NOTHING.

Plugged the charger in and pressed the power switch - again NOTHING.

Unplugged the battery and plugged in the charger (flashing amber LED), let the chromebook start to the login page, plugged in the battery (solid blue LED) . All running, unplugged the charger and it kept on running on battery.

Battery stats are Health 98%, Cycle count 2, Charge 100%, time left 11:00 hours.

Shut chromebook down. Pressed power switch - Nothing. Plugged in charger and pressed power switch - successful start up.

It passes memory and CPU tests.

In all other respects, this is a fully functional chromebook, I just don't know why it won't start unless its plugged in and why hardware reset (refresh button + power button) shuts it down instantly and does not behave as it should.

    Anyone help?
