BIOS problems

I bought this laptop a year ago with windows 7 installed, and thus upgraded it to Windows 8. Therefore, my bios when i updated it was at v1.12. So when i started having minor problems in W8 (nothing to do with hardware but due to me being a total dumbass) i decided to update the BIOS to v1.13. Turns out, v1.13 had a ***** ton of problems. Whenever i turned the brightness all the way down, the screen would just go black (which is cool, btw) but after a reboot, this nifty feature would disappear just like that. Turning the screen brightness all the way down would only cause it to go to the lowest brightness it could go without going black. Also, sometimes my screen would start flashing and all of a sudden, go black. Sometimes when i boot it up it would go to a blank screen (not even showing the POST aka huge ACER sign) and all the light would turn on except for the hard disk. Changed the hard disk, still having the same problem. BTW, before you go saying that my drivers are out of date, they aren't.

What happens when you plug an external monitor to it. Is it black both on the LCD and on the monitor?
