Down load HWINFO and check your screen specs. Browse for a website like: https://www.panelook.com and enter your panel brand and part number, you will find even the % of anti-glare coating of your screen 😀

I do not have the laptop apart yet so I can not see the numbers on the LCD

You don't need to take your laptop apart, just download HWINFO freeware it will detect panel part number and brand.

Ah. I downloaded the hwinfo and there is a section on display.
There is a lot of info in that section. What do I need to look at?
I can try and get a screen pic if that will

Only the items in red below (my screen) are important, Google for that or enter it in Panelook.com, in my case Chi Mei is the manufacturer. Let me know if you have issues. Type @Puraw or click on "Quote" when you reply or I may miss it.

The below list of screen numbers are all the screens that Acer fits to the Nitro AN517-54 laptops, this 17.3" Wide Screen laptop has a 165Hz refresher rate screen also which is its best quality screen, its part number is NE173QHM-NY4 and its the BOE 2560x1440 at 165Hz refresher rate (see this screen here) you can upgrade your laptop to this screen if your laptop has the 40 pin video connector.

I may need to remove the LCD bezel to see. Good idea to upgrade if possible

Here is the HWINFO report on the display monitor

I greatly appreciate everyone's help but it would cost me so much to repair this laptop that it wasn't worth it.
I am sending it back. Now I need to look for another in better shape0 -
Your screen size is 17.3" (17.29"), the 1920 x 1080 screens (link below), FHD, 165 HZ are suitable, nits are limited to 300 (maybe HDR), select IPS or TN (TN may be better for gaming?). You have to double check your screen cable connector to the MOBO @StevenGen states 40 pins (very important).
This one (in production, direct delivery) IMO would be a good replacement:
