CPU Overheating ~ New Acer Predator Orion 7000 Could this be caused by a faulty cooler ?

Hello,

Not sure if this is normal as where i live right now, there are 12c outside and 19-20c inside but for some reason, without playing any games, my CPU keeps overheating without even being used ( checked the CPU usage in task manager )

Could this be caused by a faulty cooler ? maybe the thermal paste applied badly or not at all ?

Also what voids the warranty for such a gaming desktop ?

My other gaming PC has the CPU temp idling at 34c, same as the GPU.

Because by the looks of this, i'll have to swap out the cooler if i don't want the CPU to die on me when i game …

If this desktop is under warranty send it back to Acer and don't touch it, as a new desktops cpu should not be reaching 96⁰C at idle, that cpu temps even with a crappy oem cooler😁 should not be so high!

Don't take or remove anything from the desktop and leave it oem and send it to Acer Support in your area. Putting a new cpu cooler on this desktop will void your warranty.

Btw, the most common cpu cooler fitted to this desktop as an upgrade and in previous Predator Orion models, is the Noctua NS-U9S chromax_black that has an option for a dual fan setup which is a very efficient cpu cooler and very quite also.

You can also fit the bigger Noctua NH-U12S chromax_black to the newer models, so check your internal spaces around the cpu if the NH-U12S chromax_black fits after you have had Acer Support check that there is nothing elese wrong with the mobo or cpu on your desktop.

Regarding the recommended coolers from your side, i assume any LGA1700 should work depending on the free place around the CPU.

What surprised me thou is even if the CPU Cooler came with 2 fans it's still not cooling properly the CPU even at idle temps …

It's the double slot - double fan cooler on this new device which sadly i cannot take a picture right now as i'm not at home :

My question to is, your cooler recommendations only apply if the ACER support found nothing wrong with my current setup … which i'm sure for them a temp of 70-80c in idle is normal if it's not 100c …

So if ACER support finds nothing wrong with my PC, Should i void my warranty by installing my own cooler in orders to preserve the life of my CPU ?

The i7-13700KF CPU should NOT be overheating to 96C at idle with an OEM Acer AIO water cooler or dry cooler like it is!

Does your Orion 7000 have the AIO water single fan CPU cooler from Acer? As if its got that and you are getting 96C at idle then there is something either wrong with the AIO water cooling or the mobo so have Acer replace the mobo or AIO cpu cooler as something is definitely wrong.

The only time you should replace the oem cpu cooling is when the temps are normal and you want to change the cpu cooler, you should not be forced to change cooling components because the motherboard or the cpu cooling is faulty and your cpu temps reach 96C at idle, its like buying a new car and having to put extra radiators because its V8 engine has cooling problems😁 get Acer to change the faulty AIO cpu cooler or the whole motherboard!

So an update from my service trip with my brand new acer gaming computer.

Looks like the "service technicians" found no issues with my CPU overheating while at IDLE.

This is from this morning, room temperature is around 16-17c and the outside temperature is around 11c right now.

How can this be considered normal for a 4700 euro product ?

It's pretty obvious for any person with basic IT knowledge that a cpu should stay around 70-80c maximum with proper

cooling and in CPU intensive applications if you want it's life to be prolonged.

Now this begs the question, does ACER do this intentional in order to shorten the lifespan of their devices ?

Once the 2 year warranty is gone, i expect this CPU to die off from overheating … and it's not EVEN SUMMER here yet.

How can a double fan CPU cooler can't hold a cpu temperature below 90C at IDLE ?

This sounds like nothing more but Planned obsolescence even for their HIGH End products in order to screw their customers.

I don't blame their "service technicians" as i'm sure the guidelines for their " healthy temperature " checks have been done for other purposes then making a good and safe product …

Sadly i am not allowed to do any changes to this computer if i want to keep the warranty valid for these 2 years, except change the m.2 SSD drives.

We all know that HIGh CPU Temps = Small lifespan. Also note that this is not a laptop in a small enclosure to be acceptable for such high temperatures. This is a medium-full tower case. Even a good quality 1 fan passive cooler can cool better than this and keep the temperatures under control.

If the water pump is working properly, and that is big if, I think you have a contact problem between the CPU's IHS and water block.

If you are up to it, order cheap Thermalright CPU Contact Frame for LGA 1700 and some thermal paste. Youtube has many installation videos how to do this. Contact frame should secure good even contact and bring down your temps considerably. I did this on my lowly i5-12600 and my temps dropped more than 5C and I did not even have contact problems.

Well, then there is the option of returning the unit to the store and having a custom build PC. With that money you can get a really powerful PC that is also cool and quiet.

I thought about that as well, but doing that would invalidated the warranty of this PC.

most of us who purchase a 3000-5000-7000 have all upgraded the coolers to something better, it does not void the warranty as long as you don't break anything, that is coming from a level 2 tech, they said they prefer us using someone to install our new upgrades but not necessary, because not all of us have that option, so you can do whatever you want as long as you dont break anything installing something, and i agree with GotBanned, return it and build your own and if you dont like that option and want an acer predator get a 5000 they are less than half the price and then put a Noctua nh-u12a air cooler on it or a liquid cooler of your choice, and i have that correction plate on mine and it helps, but no way ide get a 7000 they are way over priced with really bad cooling, but once again its your choice just keep us posted on what ya do, here is my 5000 and with all my upgrades its still half the price of a 7000.

Not so sure what a level 2 tech support is.

I got the information directly from the service guys that even changing the thermal paste on the cooler would void the waranty.

Also most of you upgraded your computers but i bet it was after the warranty was gone otherwise you would lose the warranty.

mines still good until November of this year and i learned so much here, i would never have to send mine in, nor would i, besides, every member here that has sent there's in, for whatever reason, comes back no problems found i have noticed, and a level 2 support agent is the highest you can speak to on the phone, you have 2 request a callback from one of them, the regular support tech agents are just ppl who answer the phones and sometimes if not always, they don't even know what we know lol, no offense intended its just facts, i have spoken to enough to realize they are no help at all for me, so there ya go, its your choice what to do, we can only tell you what we have done ourselves, im a new pc gamer, only been a little over a year, im 56 and i do all my own upgrades, with the help of the amazing ppl here, helping me, and taking my time reading and learning and watching YouTube videos, upgrading or building a pc is very simple, once ya understand the basics.

well, i noticed you have your fans set on auto mode, maybe its not engaging properly? mine doesn't work either, so i keep mine on gaming, when im on my pc gaming, i know those upper radiator fans are loud on yours, but any testing and temps should be done with all fans at 100%, to really get an idea about temps and how good or bad they are, run a test in gaming mode and or play a game to get a true idea then.

I don't see any issues with the stats you have posted. Remember that instantaneous temperature can spike for short times as the fan ramp in speed. You should be looking at stable temperatures not peak. You are running at 50C which is respectable. What temperatures do you see on the CPU under heavy gaming? My system often runs steady at around 50C or so when doing nothing other than web browsing. Fan tables used in the various modes on these machines typically try to hold the temperatures stable in the 50-70C range for optimum performance.

Hang on, such spikes in temperature should not be normal, specially not at idle/basic usage ( browsing the internet, creating some text documents etc. )

All my PC's i've built together never had such spikes with past i7 cpus and even overclocked.

Also the current acer one, in gaming or in load, the cpu stays usually around 80-90c and the gpu around 55-60c and that around noon, when the temperature in the room reaches 25c. The fans to get pretty loud as a sign that the "auto" function does it's job. I got to see spikes of up to 100c on the CPU.

My other gaming PC does not go higher than 65-70c for the CPU temp but does indeed get a higher temperature for the GPU 76c (RTX 3080) which can be considered normal.

Sadly i cannot use the fans on 100% as it's impossible for any living human being to be around this computer once the fans are at 100%.

It has the same noise as a vacuum cleaner. I doubt anyone can have that around them for more than 1 minute.

yeah i know i saw that video lol, i hear ya, and well, you don't have many options left, but to return it or fix it yourself lol, btw those videos are awesome, that guy is so funny and cool, I've talked to him before about it and my pc lol, that and the price is why i bought a 5000 instead, i did all the research i could before buying one.
