AN515-45 acts like Fn+F6 pressed sometimes when my palm touches wrist rest and touchpad together

In just the past 4–6 weeks, my 9-month-old Acer Nitro AN515-45 has started turning off the laptop display sometimes when I'm gaming if I touch the touchpad while my wrist is touching the wrist-rest part of the case. This doesn't happen every time I make contact, but it does happen often. I haven't been able to identify that it's happening with a specific set of keys being pressed when I'm touching the touchpad and case, but it is certainly possible only some particular keys plus contact makes this happen. And, since I'm usually pressing keys like crazy while gaming, the screen does come right back on, but it throws things out of whack for a couple of seconds while the game display shifts over to my external display when the primary shuts off, then right back to the laptop display after it comes back on.

I have tried disabling the touchpad (Fn+F5) when gaming, but this problem still occurs. Thinking the problem might be some kind of weird short happening when I bridge the case and the touchpad, I just now disassembled the laptop, removed the battery, and disconnected then reconnected all the connectors along the battery-side edge of the motherboard. I'll have to play more to see if that has alleviated the problem, but I decided to get on here and ask for help in case others have suggestions to help me track down the source of the problem.

Since getting the laptop, I have upgraded the memory from 8 Gig to 32 Gig, but a MemTest86+ indicates the DIMMs are good, so I suspect that isn't the cause. I have also installed a 4 TB SSD in the SATA drive bay. I don't know that these last two things matter, but I'm throwing the info in just in case that helps diagnose the problem. All this said, does anyone have any ideas what could be going on?

Thanks!

"Ghosting" it was called when the first touchpads arrived and reducing the sensitivity in Touchpad Settings helps

Run the Keyboard trouble shooter to reset some rogue keys.

Uninstall the drivers on the picture in Device Manager may help too and reboot.

Using an external mouse is probably the best solution for gaming:

Thank you. I have disabled the touchpad hardware via Fn+F5, but the display blanking continues. Running the keyboard troubleshooter gave a "No problems found" result, so I continued on. I have just removed the suggested devices and rebooted, and will come back and indicate whether this resolved my issue once I have time to play again and see if the issue still occurs. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated, and hopefully this will be a successful resolution for me.

Well I just gamed for over an hour and not a single screen flicker happened. While I can't say 100% for sure your solution was correct, because there's a tiny chance that I've just gotten used to playing in such a way that my hands don't often hit the wrist-rest and the touchpad at the same time, I'm highly confident that your suggestions actually did fix my issue. It seems likely that your recommendations, in particular the driver removal and reboot, were the proper course of action. I'm marking this as resolved, and want to express my gratitude for your taking time so quickly after I posted to give me advice which appears to have solved my issue. This is truly appreciated, and hopefully I can help others in the future as much as you've helped me.

Glad it worked😀My 4-year-old touchpad (a515-54G) is also acting up lately, often "Drag and Drop" issues, but uninstalling those driver(s) did not help, checked the registry and everything looked normal. Reset gestures to default and cleaning the touchpad improved it a bit; use high sensitivity now. I believe W11, 22H2 has some Touchpad issues and my laptop starts showing its "wear and tear"; power-up issues and my left speaker quit, ordered a new "Grade 1" set speakers from eBay. The great thing with Aspire5-a515 series is that most replacement parts are readily available online.
