No, the Triton 500 SE 2021 supports only the M.2 PCIe3x4 drives but they do work with PCIe4x4 M.2 drives also as they are compatible (if you have one laying around) but you will never ever get the full speed of a PCIe4x4 M.2 of read/write speeds of 5000MB/s plus speeds, so its useless to buy one, best is to use the PCIe 3x4 M.2 drives like the WD SN750 Black or the Samsung 970 EVO NVMe PCIe3x4 M.2 drives that are the fastest M.2 drives.

Btw, I'm using the WD SN750 Black M.2 drives in my Nitro 5 AN515-56 and the boot SSD #1 slot work only at max 3600MB/s read/write. But note, that SSD #2 slot runs at 50% +/- speed slower than the SSD #1 boot drive slot and that is with the above M.2 quickest PCIe3x4 drives, as I've got the WD 1TB SN750 Black fitted into both of my #1 and #2 SSD slots and the #2 SSD M.2 slot runs at 1800MB/s speed while the SSD #1 boot slot runs at 3600MB/s speed.

I'd like to clarify that i'm asking if both m.2 slots support Gen 4, the primary slot (Disk 0) does, it does show R/W speeds advertised by a 980 Pro. Just haven't got the time to check the other slot out.

May be your Nitro's other m.2 slot is only a PCIe Gen3x2.

Did you open your laptop to have look at that 2nd PCIe slot? According to some reviews of your 2021 model the SSD in not accessible unless you remove the motherboard?

Yes you are correct, I was looking at the PT515-51 which is a totally different laptop as I can't get the Acer SG on the PT516-51s. The upper spec Triton 500 SE PT516-51s with the i9-11900H, RTX3080 does come with the Samsung Gen 4 M.2 980 EVO NVMe Gen 4 drive. Be warned as to fit a second drive its very awkward to reach the second M.2 SSD slot, that is why Acer provided the PT516-51s with two Samsung PCIe Gen 4 SSDs in a Raid0 configuration and they are ridiculously fast, so think about that and don't worry about how fast the SSD #2 is. Also test your drives and let us know, as I'm sure that allot of users will be very interested to know what a 2021 Triton 500 SE two years on performs like😁

Yes, I did but only changed the primary SSD with a 1TB Samsung 980 Pro. My stupid self forgot to check the other slot. Would like to buy another gen4 drive to install but still thinking.

Installation is a bit cumbersome, you really have to remove the cables and unscrew the motherboard.

Appreciate that information, gives me more confidence to purchase another gen4 drive.

Well, for me personally, 2021 gaming laptop models still perform good to this day. Have this one, the Triton 500 SE, and 2021 models of Scar 17, M16 and Legion 7. Still hits those FPS and temps are still as advertised.
