    Thanks for the help again.

I measured both my old and new chargers. Both came out around 19volts (new one was 19.11 and older one was 19.18). The polarity of the new one is +, not sure about the old one since the sticker came off.

The multimeter should indicate if the center hole is +positive or -negative with the red pin plugged into it. If +positive should read 19volts. If -negative should read -19volts

This is what the screen looks like on the new charger. There is no plus or minus.

What happens when you reverse the red and black probes?

Ah reversing the probes gives me -19.18.

The good news. Your chargers seem to be good. The new computer port is good. And you got a good multimeter.

The bad news, the mainboard charge controller or the battery's own internal charge controller has failed. Mainboard replacement might be impractical. Battery replacement might be practical

If it was mine, I'd google search the keywords "SF314-41" & "battery' for a vendor who'd ship a new battery to my location for what I believed to be a reasonable price, Yes it'd be ~$40usd gamble in the unlikely event the mainboard controller has failed. But I'd be willing to take that risk. But it's not mine to take the risk of spending that money on a new battery. So you'll have to make the final decision. Sorry.

I guess I'll try and replace the battery for now. If that doesn't work I suppose I'll have to send it off to get repaired and hope it costs less than a new laptop.

How dangerous is battery replacement? I noticed the battery has tons of warning signs on it about not piercing it and being careful.

How does this one look? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134040354632

Also any idea what could have done this? Apart from surfing the web the only things I can think of that might have broken my laptop are the Sims 4 (which overheated my laptop so much I could only play it for an hour or two at a time or it would turn off) or Premiere Pro/After Effects (which made it heat up a lot, but never turn off).

Aye!! I don't think you mentioned this before? Yes, repeatedly overheating the laptop to the point of automatic shutdown can eventually damage the CPU/GPU if done one too many times. My experience has been that you can get away with this about a half-dozen times before damage occurs. However. it usually, but not always, manifests as display issues either a black screen, abnormal screen colors or image distortions even when HDMI out to an external screen.. Since you haven't reported display issues yet, a new battery is still a reasonable gamble. The one you selected from UKStock seems fine.

Remove 9 screws from bottom cover and pry it away from the top cover using a suitable plastic wedge like a credit card. Then untape the battery wires and connectors. Disconnect battery from the mainboard. Remove two battery pack screws and lift the pack out.

If you do try heavy power load games and apps again, I suggest that laptop be raised about an inch above a hard surface to promote air flow in and out of the bottom air vents. Don't block them or set the laptop on a soft surface like a pillow, cushion or mattress

I never had any problems with the screen/picture at all. It would just shut down after being on for a while (usually I would turn it off once it got to hot). This only happened when I played the Sims. Apart from that my laptop worked perfectly.

I have ordered the new battery. I'll let you know how installing it goes. Silly question, but do laptop batteries come "charged" or will I need to charge it first?

Yes!!! Install the battery. Button it back up. Then plug the charger in. BUT don't try to turn it on till the battery charge LED turns from orange to solid blue.

Hello! New battery arrived and I installed it. Whilst installing it I noticed a slight difference between the battery numbers.

The top battery is the new one and has the code A1CP5-57-80 whereas the old one has a code of A1CP5-57-81. Is that okay? I don't want to accidentally install the wrong type of battery and blow my laptop up.

AC14B battery series is the important number.

And it's working! Turns on, charges, stays on when charger is not connected, all looks great!

I tried with the new charging port first and it didn't work. I switched to the original charging port and it worked right away. Seems like it was probably the battery all along!

    Thanks for your help!

One more quick question, how do I dispose of the battery?

As a curiosity, you can also check the battery old one with the multimeter and check its voltages.

Congratulations on your success.🙂 Thanks for reporting back. Battery disposal depends on your location. Google search the keywords ' lithium ion battery disposal near me' for instructions.

How do I check the voltage of the old battery? Do I need to reconnect it to my laptop?

Thanks so much for your help Jack! If you have Ko-fi or amazon wish list please let me know so I can thank you properly.

Full battery voltage is usually measured between the black & red wires at each extreme end of the battery connector. Touch the multimeter probe tips to the metal tabs encircled. Thanks for your thoughts! Just enjoy your laptop! 🙂

On mine I had to connect from the orange wire to the black one. (ground the orange wire) This is an enable signal that tells the battery to turn on.

  • It is necessary to put in the scale of direct current.

    PROBLEM SOLVEDDD…!!!!!!!!

Apparently it's a BUG with ACER CARE CENTER, they have a battery CAP feature that locks your Laptop's battery at 80%, so my battery was also stuck at 23% and it wasn't charging and when ever i disconnected the charger the battery discharged to point it went to 0%, after a lot of research i couldn't find a solution, but suddenly i thought maybe it might be the problem with the ACER CARE CENTER, so i just uninstalled it and vola the Problem was fixed my laptop was charging again…..THANK GOD!!!

and if you want to use the 80% CAP feature just install the CARE CENTER again it would work properly.

Such a shame ACER has this device breaking glitch.
