My brother's laptop was updated from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, today. The first attempt did not work as it give us an error that says something like ".. couldn't configure settings.. please restart", so we did. After restarting, the system returned the OS to Windows 8. And it prompts with an error "0xc1900101-0x30018". Searched about the error and tried the workaround, attempted to update the OS and this time it worked. However, the laptop says "no connection available" and the search bar on taskbar along with the start button won't work. Search bar is greyed out. Tried opening the settings using CMD with the hope that I can downgrade the OS but it gives us a response: package could not be registered.

  • Is your model the E5-471G? Does the same issue occur when performing a cold install of the operating system?

Go online and make sure your internet is working, Try the upgrade again or select the Start button, then select Settings > System > Activation.

Follow the steps in this link to go back to Windows 8

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/upgrade-to-windows-10-faq-cce52341-7943-594e-72ce-e1cf00382445

If nothing works restart in Safe Mode (Shift+Restart) and click on Restart on the blue Troubleshoot screen, F4 or 4 Safe Mode. now you can restore your system or roll back the W10 upgrade.

@Puraw hi, i was able to upgrade to w10 the problem is the wifi drivers are gone and i don't know how to get it back. I'm thinking to downgrade it again but I want it to be the last resort. hehe

Device Manager can tell you the hardware IDs for the WiFi, and then a search can get you a source for the drivers. Needless to say you need a different computer to find the drivers, then transfer them on something like a thumb drive. :)

Good, that's a start in the right direction, WIFI is easy to fix😀

The MS link below has many pages with many different procedures to get your WIFI drivers back but run the Windows10 Troubleshooter first it may be a simple setting issue:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/after-upgrading-from-windows-81-to-windows-10-no/42b1852e-4faa-47a2-85ca-dc8e190c7c27?page=2

Finally open Device Manager and check hidden devices if the WIFI Network adapter (or an unknown device) is hiding there, uninstall all unknown devices and the ones with a yellow exclamation mark. Reboot.

Hi, I did that. Installed the latest drivers that matched the laptop I'm using but there's no changes

What were the hardware IDs for the network adapter for your laptop?

Did you run the Windows10 Network Troubleshooter yet?

  • Can you provide the exact model of your computer?
