But the customer care did said that my onboard memory is 3200 and i also asked chat gpt about it

Hope you won't mind can you tell in the chat there they were saying that after adding 16gb ram than 8 gb will go for dual and 12 gb will go for single line can you expain it to me in terms of speed and please tell which ram should i buy 2666 or 3200

when i called the customer care they said that 3200 ram is used in this laptop i am getting confused they said that 3200 is used but speed is 2666 and it depends on your usage if your usage is heavy then it will work more than 2666 and is it possible to use nvme ssd and sata ssd together instead of the HDD

Yes, when you remove 4GB from your laptop, it runs at 2666MHz, that means the onboard RAM has 2666MHz frequency, so iwould suggest you buy 16GB 2666Mhz module.

When you install 16GB RAM, 4GB of it will function in dual channel mode with the 4GB onboard memory, when your usage exceed 8GB(4GB onboard+4GB) the system will run the rest of the memoy from 16GB as single channel but it will not impact the speed of memory.

What are you running that uses 5.8 GB RAM? Unless you are watching a HD video that is +2 GB above my a515-55G RAM running W11 22H2. Maybe you should consider uninstalling some apps you are not using or perhaps disable 3rd party AV?

Yes you are in Dual Channel mode (like I am) and your frequency is 2667 MHz, 1 x 4 GB DDR4 is soldered and not always recognized by some RAM monitors that read slots only.

Speed is often confused with bandwidth (frequency) you have to multiply your clock "speed" by 8 to get speed so 2667 x 8 = 21,336 Byte/s, like stated above this varies a lot and depends on what is running, on battery, background apps, telemetric, etc. I attach a bench of my RAM by Maxxmem2 freeware that show 29 GByte/s, that is more than 21.3 GByte and I am very happy with that.

If you need more RAM you can replace the 4 GB module for a 1 x 16 GB DDR4 2666 Mhz, exactly the same CL, brand, etc. as the DDR4 soldered on the MOBO (total supported is 20 GB), it has been reported that this mix GB (4 +16) will still give you the 2667 Mhz frequency. If you want to know the specs of the soldered DDR4 run this command in the Command Prompt (opened as administrator)

    Elevated command:
wmic MemoryChip get Banklabel, Capacity, Configuredclockspeed, Devicelocator, FormFactor, Manufacturer, Serialnumber, Speed

Bank 0 is the soldered DDR4 and Bank2 is the slot with the removable DDR4.

can you tell me why both of my ram has same BankLabel but both have different serial number and here speed is 3200

I just want to get even if there is a slim chance to increase the speed upto 3200mhz if it is somehow locked

why the configured speed is lower than the maximum speed supported😭😭😭😭

I hope you won't get angry because i know you may be annoyed that i am asking the same thing for so many time

No problem but please click on Quote or type @Puraw at the top or I won't see your question.

The key question is do you have 2 slots for 2 removable DDR4 modules or only 1 slot and one soldered DDR4 module.

This is what you should get in Windows11with that Wmic command I send you. Why you get 2 identical tables I don't know.

Bank 2 (picture above) without the Serial number is the soldered DDR4, slot 1 (removable DDR4) is Bank 0. I don't know why you get 2 x bank 0 without any serial number, did you perhaps run the WMIC command twice? These are copies, same partnumbers.

Acer implies they put 2x 3200 MHz DDR4s 4GB in 2 slots, or is perhaps one soldered and 1 in the removable slot?

CPU-Z has a tab after Memory named SPD, click on slot #2 to see if you have 2 slots or only 1 like I have.

Another way to confirm that is to open the back of your laptop and see if you have 2 slots or only 1. I cannot believe Acer put 3200 MHZ DDR4s in a laptop with only 2667 Mhz clock speed, but maybe that's all they had available. If you find out you have only 1 slot with 1 x 4 GB DDR4, take that out and run the WMIC command again to find out what is soldered on the MOBO. If you have 2 slots with 2x 4 GB DDR4 just replace one for a 16 GB 3200 MHz so the set has the same frequency but it should also have the same CAS latency (as the one onboard).

To confuse you even more; The DDR4 frequency (like 3,200 MHz) is double (DDR4 convention) what a system can actually read so in this case the Aspire5 only reads 1,600 Mhz if you add the same DDR4 you should get 3,200 MHz in Dual Channel mode but maximum clock speed is 2,667 MHz so that is your bandwidth (or x 8 = 21,336 Byte/second speed).

@Puraw well i have one soldered and one removable ram

here is the speed when i remove the removable ram and the removable ram is 3200mhz it is written on its sticker

Here you can see the full info of both rams

So the CPU-Z SPD tab showed no slots when you took the DDR4 out of the slot? Or did you not run CPU-Z?

Never mind, CPU-Z won't detect a soldered DDR4 it only reads the removable slots.

A pity you don't have W11, you should really upgrade to Windows11, WMIC and many other utilities have greatly improved the last 2-3 years. See at the bottom of the picture below, your laptop fully supports Windows 11 22H2.

So Acer did not upgrade your system to W11 and put 2 x 3200 MHz DDR4s in a motherboard with a RAM clock speed of 2667 MHz.

Bottom line, I would follow the DDR4 speed that is soldered on your MOBO and buy a 16 GB 3200 MHz same specs. (CAS Latency, voltage, PC, everything) as the one in the slot now.

You never told me why your RAM is using 5.8 GB (too much) in Windows10, infact you never confirmed that you are running W10? Check in Task Manager Startup apps. tab and disable a bunch, also check Programs (type that in Search bar) to see if you really need all those apps running, like Norton and whatever else they installed on your laptop (bloatware), W10 uses about 3GB RAM, W11 a bit more. I never needed more than 4 GB on my a515-54G (with 2 GPUs) and you have the11th gen Intel i5 my CPU is 10th i7 (also bigger). Well. I hope this solved your RAM speed questions😉

Who installed your Windows 11? It looks like you are still on W10 or possibly W11 21H1, WMIC results should look like I showed you two rows for both slots not one column. Press the Windows key+R and type: Winver what do you see?

Sorry, my bad, you need to update your W11 we are now on build 1635 You still have build 1413 (March 15)

and there is something wrong with your WMIC command (looks like W10) as that should show 2 rows of two DDR4 slots not a single column or perhaps you typed the command I sent you wrong?
