Aspire E 15 E5 576G-5815 OS Deletion from Dual boot inquiry

Hi there! I actually have a number of questions regarding my experience on installing my newly bought SSD and I hope you can help me. Originally, I planned to upgrade my laptop's boot speed and the programs' loading times with this SSD WD Blue SN570 as these take time to load and use the HDD for pure storage. By the way, I have the Aspire E 15 E5 576G-5815. I successfully initialized the SSD and tried to install Windows OS the first time via Microsoft USB installation tool but the SSD was not showing on the list. I also tried to remove the HDD and leave the SSD for installation, yet an error during the installation shows saying "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one." Installation finally worked when I reinserted the HDD and retried to install the OS on the SSD, which then I unintentionally made dual OS. Every start up, windows let me choose between the 2 OS. Out of curiosity, I tried to remove the HDD to check if I can use the SSD alone, yet this failed as the "No bootable device" showed.
1. Is this scenario completely normal?
2. Since I originally want to have one OS, use the HDD as storage, and SSD as boot device, is it okay to delete the OS from the HDD?

I will appreciate any help!

The problem and the thing that you are doing and have done wronglly is this:

    1. You need the Aspire E5-576G "IRST (Intel® Rapid Storage Technology) Driver Hot Fix 16.7.8.1024" driver to be unzipped and put onto the Windows installation USB after you have finished this bootable installation USB.
    2. Then when you do the Windows installation and you get to the section called "Where do you want to install Windows?" and you don't see the M.2 drive, you need to install the above driver from the Windows installation USB, don't install the Intel Optane driver that is included in this driver as it will lock your installation up!
    3. After that your M.2 will be shown, then format the drive and install windows
    4. Also and after you have installed window, update to the Aspire E5-576G last BIOS version 1.49 - Update Intel microcode - dated: 2019/03/22

The best is to have one OS and to have the M.2 SSD as the boot drive as its the quickest and the HDD as a slave drive. If the HDD has other OS than windows then you can have dual OS boot drives on the laptop, but if you have on the M.2 drive Windows and on the HDD the same windows then you will have problems as the laptop will always boot to the old OS boot drive.

When you have sorted everything out to ONE OS, then make sure that you do this afterwards, update Windows Updates for your OS, install the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant and install the latest NVidia graphics driver and GeForce Experience software for gaming, as this NVidia software has the ultimate settings for many games that Nvidia have gone to allot of trouble to set your NVIDIA GeForce 940MX (2GB GDDR5) GPU to its best performance for gaming, and also set in the NVidia Control Panel > Program Settings all your games and high end software to the settings of High-performance NVidia processor, as all this will make your Aspire E5-576G perform at its best.

Hi, StevenGen! I really appreciate your response to my question and additional information. Just want to clarify something before I proceed with the process. Since I was already able to see the M.2 SSD (when I reconnected the HDD) and installed the Windows OS on it, can I proceed to Step 4 and beyond without any issues? I'm really afraid to delete the old OS as when I removed the HDD and leave the SSD alone, "No bootable device" showed even when OS was already installed on the SSD. 😓

HI @ACOP the problem is that the HDD is configured in the boot boot.
If you start an installation from Windows on the HDD to install Windows on the SSD, what you create within the boot boot two systems, that is, a single boot and two windows, this leads to each boot having to select which of the two Windows start.

If this is what happened, access Windows from the SSD and enter msconfig and delete the Windows boot on the HDD:

Also bud, I'm not sure if I have the latest version already, it's v1.49 yet the date doesnt match.

Can I still proceed with this version?

I'm sorry for the clarifications, I just know that it's hard to mess with the BIOS, please bear with me. 🙇‍♂️ Thanks!

Much better at this point is to start over and do the SSD right. Clone the HDD to the SSD, remove the HDD, boot using the SSD only, then reinstall the HDD and use Disk Management to wipe the HDD and convert it to just a data disk. If you start with a clean install of Windows on the SSD all your data, apps and utilities will have to be redone, if you clone everything will be there already.
