I wanted to upgrade the display to a better looking panel for A515-56

I recently deeply scratched my matte display, and although it still works, I wanted to upgrade the display to a better looking panel.

The current IPS display looks more like a TN, and has horrible vertical viewing angles as well as color accuracy. The whites look really blue.

From what I've researchd:

  • The display connector is a 30 pin EDP connector
  • The resolution is 1080p at 60hz.

Does anyone have an idea on how I would find a nice panel for an upgrade?

By the way, I'm not looking to upgrade the resolution or refresh rate.

Below are all the LED screens part numbers and FRU LCD Refresh Rate listed by Acer in the A515-56 SG for screens, you can't just upgrade the screen as most of the high end screens like 144Hz and 165Hz refresh rate screens have the 40 pin video connectors, the only thing that you can do is use the screens listed below as LS screen site that I've given you the link below to, have all the upgrades possible to every model screen like from a 60Hz to a 144Hz but for the A515-56 screens 30 pin video connector they don't have that upgrade option.

See the LS Screens site for all the Aspire A515-56 LED screens, as they have all the below screens listed by Vendor Part Numbers. But the A515-56 only has a 60Hz refresh screen with 30 pin video connector and make sure that you have double-sided tape for installation as removing this screen requires a special method of pulling a tab of the adhesive tape out to remove the double sided tape.

    Thanks for the response.
I think the screen in my laptop's the B156HAN02.1 HW1A:
    https://www.panelook.com/B156HAN02.1+HW1A_AUO_15.6_LCM_overview_35412.html

And I've found a TV156FHM-NH2 display online for the upgrade:
    https://www.panelook.com/TV156FHM-NH2_BOE_15.6_LCM_overview_52155.html

Do you think the upgrade is compatible?
I know the upgrade display doesn't come with mounting points, so would double sided tape be enough to hold it in?

Try to match the exact part numbers that I’ve given you above, don’t get any other screen that is not the same part number (as it won't fit) take your old screen out first and see what its part number is. I know that you are not happy with the quality/image of your old screen but, look at the specs of the other screens listed above and buy one that has the superior specs (do your research). Remember, all those other screens that I’ve given you will also fit as they are all 30 pin video connectors and listed in the Acer SG for your laptop.

The double sided tape is how your oem old screen is fixed to the top case lid, there are tabs that you need to pull out to dislodge the old screen from each side before you can take the old screen out, after, you need to buy and apply the new double sided tape in the exact place as the old tape, if you buy the screen from Pnelook.com they should have the correct double sided take that is need to secure your new screen, as that is the only way to fix the new screen to your laptop.

Update, I ended up buying the TV156FHM-NH2 and replacing the current one with it.

Now, the laptop feels amazing, and the colours are really vivid and clean. The blacks don't look blue, the colours don't change when I view from a different vertical angle, and the side viewing angles are amazing as well.

There were 0 issues with brightness changing, or mountpoint compatibility, as the original AUO61ED was mounted with glue like you said.

Removing the bezel and the old screen was kinda sketchy, and I ended up breaking the original display, but that screen was so horrible I don't even care.

I wish Acer would stop putting these god awful displays on their devices, but I guess they only do that because stupid people like me buy these devices.

I don't recommend doing this for everybody, but if you've got the technical knowledge and skills, give it a go.

Glad that you sorted your screen issue out as allot of the time not many consumers know what screens they buy in a laptop and they are not particular about screen specs. Where did you get this screen model number TV156FHM-NH2 (is this a Glossy screen?) as usually a glossy screen is the best for domestic usage, and how did you know that this screen will be compatible with your A515-56? As the A515-56 LCD/LED Acer oem screens are listed above.

I got Twinkle Tray, and went into the "Monitor settings" which showed me the model number of the display. (AUO61ED in my case)

Searching the model number on panelook gave me this. (I assumed the first one was my display)

I searched my laptop model on youtube and found this screen repair video of a similiar model, from which I assumed my model also had double sided tape to secure the screen in place.

I went onto Aliexpress, searched "30 pin edp 1080p laptop display 15.6" or something similiar.

Then, I sorted by price and looked through the listings to find listings selling 1 type of display, rather than multiple or "compatible" displays.

I made sure the display didn't have mountpoints, so I could tape it in place. (from looking at the listing image)

I then looked up the model numbers of the displays in the listings on panelook, and filtered to those that had:

    • 72% or better NTSC coverage
    • Same connector (eDP, 30 pin, 2 Lanes)
    • 1080x1920 resolution
    • Same size (15.6 inch)

I then googled the models, and found reviews of them. I found this one on notebookcheck for the TV156FHM-NH2.

It seemed decent, so I ordered it.

By the way, the display is matte. There were glossy options too, but I preferred matte as I use my laptop in the sunlight often. The screen still looks amazingly vivid though.

Good work, as that’s one way of doing a screen upgrade but its easier to go to a specialist screen retailer like LS screens that has guides of how to fit and what to look for and if your screen can be upgraded to higher resolution refresher rate screen, as they have an extensive range of all laptops.
