Currenty running Bios ver. 1.18 on my Aspire 5 A515-57-760X. Acer has released two Bios updates for my laptop during March 2023 but can't find any information anywhere on what these updates are for. Anyone know? Also I understand that when doing a Bios update, you do not have to do the updates sequentially but go to the latest version (in my case skip upgrading from 1.18 to 1.19 then to 1.21 but instead upgrade directly from 1.18 to 1.21. I previously upgraded to ver. 1.18 without any problems.

Here's the info from the Acer upate site for my laptop:

BIOS1. Update dGPU power state setting.
  • Date:2023/03/22
  • Version:1.21
  • Vendor:Acer
  • Size:10.85 MB
  • Download
BIOS1. Update for Winfi 6E setting.
  • Date:2023/03/15
  • Version:1.19
  • Vendor:Acer
  • Size:10.85 MB
  • Download

Just in addition to the above, as I’ve got an Aspire A515-57-56UV model. What exact Aspire A515-57 model do you have? As and if you have the A515-57 then your laptop does NOT have a Discrete graphics processing unit it only has an Integrated graphics inside your CPU!

If you have for example the Aspire 5 A515-57G-52HF model then you have a Discrete graphics processing unit inside and this laptop has the GeForce® RTX™ 2050 GPU and the BIOS version 1.21 tilled “Update dGPU power state setting in bios Version: 1.21” is a fix for the Discrete graphics processing unit power state settings, that is a simple explanation.

The BIOS titled “Update for Winfi 6E setting version 1.19” is for the settings of the Wi-Fi 6E that improves the 6GHz band to the existing 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands available in Wi-Fi 6. The additional 6GHz band and will help reduce congestion in areas with lots of Wi-Fi networks, improving network performance and reliability.

Btw, I’ve got the A515-57-56UV version and I don’t need and havent installed BIOS version 1.21 as my laptop has the i5-1240P CPU with the Intel Iris Xe Integrated graphics and it dosent need the BIOS version 1.21 but I have upgraded to BIOS version 1.19 for my Wi-Fi. That is basically what those two BIOS updates are all about.

BIOS updates are primarily meant to fix signficant or serious issues that for example might arise in models due to unannounced production changes or hardware. Accordingly, if your machine seems to be functioning properly, a BIOS update is NOT recommended due to a much higher risk of adverse issues or bricking than ordinary Windows device driver updates.

Thanks for your response and warning, Jack. I still have not gotten an answer to my question as to what the Bios updates (1.19 and 1.21) repair or improve on my Aspire 5 A515-57-760X. I updated directly from 1.18 to 1.21 yesterday. No problems so far with the update. Only observation is that my fans appear to be quieter.

The BIOS descriptions & changelogs are usually very sparse on exactly what they do or don't do. Often written in hard to decipher terms. Acer usually specifies their firmware options or fix-this fix-that requirements to 3rd parties like AMI, Phoenix & Insyde who then write the code. We Acer users have no way of getting or privy to any more than what appears or doesn't appear on the BIOS firmware downloads pages. Sorry.

Consider yourself lucky. If any new firmware updates appear on the Acer download site, I suggest trying to resist the temptation try to fix a machine with no apparent problems. 🙂

Thanks StevenGen. Very helpful information. I didn't need to update. As mentioned in an earlier post, I have the Aspire 5 A515-57-760X which does have theIntel Iris Xe Integrated graphics.
