New M.2 SSD upgraded from my predator to a own build system

hello so i while ago i upgraded from my predator to a own build system,

Now my girlfriend bought a new cpu, new gpu, new ram and a new hdd and m.2 ssd,

I tried to install it and had some issues with with it but i thought they were gone cause could not install windows on a drive because they were not there, so watched some video changed a setting in the bios and then it worked i thought so, now windows is installed on the hdd and the m.2 ssd is nowhere to be found. Not in the diskmanagement, not in the bios, reinstalled it and tried a new from which is the same m.2 for myself and did not work.

What do i need to do?

Sound like you have alrady tried this, but does this help? I think you need to initialize the new disk.

Yes i tried, i dont get the new drive message like you should, just installed the same one on my pc and directly got the message, bios does not see it aswell, do i need any drivers or anything. Also tried to install a initialized one also not working. Just nothing and also i cannot allocate it.

Also tried setting AHCI option in the bios, thats the only option i could find and thats how i got the hdd working, but the SSD is just nowhere, also tried my other m.2 slot but not working aswell

So I take your new system is working just fine? Good!

As you know, when building a new system all that is needed is Windows installation media on an USB stick and at least one storage drive. The installation program should find the M.2 drive automatically, if it is installed properly and in the right slot.

I'm sorry byt this is a bit vague. Is she using your old Acer motherboard, case and PSU? If she is, why did she buy all these components?

Can you list all the components that the problematic system has so that we can try to see what is wrong? Thanks!

Yes using my motherboard, psu, and the case, before there was an rtx 3060 in it, i7 11700f and 16 gigs of ram, now she got a i5 10400, rtx 3060, and 16 gigs of ram.

The SSD is still not found and windows is installed on the hdd, which we not wanted.. nothing is working..

Okay i found that the second m.2 driver is working. My ssd is now being found, but why is my first slot not working?

Also looks like the first slot needs a bigger m.2 ssd, looks like something needs to trigger it..

Good that you have it working now, at least partially. Before going any further I must say that the motherbord used by Acer is a bit doodoo and I don't know all the details of its inner workings.

In many normal motherboards the M.2 slots closest to the CPU (often labeled as M.2_1) is controlled by the CPU and the rest by the chipset. Looks like that the problem you faced was caused by the 10th gen CPU.

The i5-10400 your GF has does not support PCIe 4.0. But, but, but! The slot should still still work but at a lower speed. To be honest, I have no idea why Kingston SSD is not working at slot 1. Could be that you need some driver for it to.

I suppose that the Kingston drive in M.2_2 is running at 3.0 speed. You can test this with many programs, one of the easiest being some speed test like Crystal Diskmark. If the results are considerably lower than what expected, the slot is not being used at PCIe 4.0 speeds but 3.0. In paper the difference is big, but IRL almost unnoticable.
