Hi.

Just got a new Acer predator Orion 3000 a couple days ago.
When i was pressing the on button i got a really big static electricity to my finger, so it s felt strong trough the hole finger.

The Button seems to be metal, not easy to tell. I always heard that static is very bad for pcs, so what is the chances that the static charge from the human could find the way inside the computer?

Could this be something to worry about?
I am very static when it’s winter time when we use heater inside the house.
So this would probably happen again but this time i had some shoes on that i tried maby it cause it to build extra electricity.

Hi @Ray1980 the problem of static is common to all electrical appliances and this is avoided by connecting the equipment to a wall outlet that has a ground connection and if you use an extension cord, that this extension cord also has a ground connection connector.
    Greetings.

  • What is the exact model? Example PO3-630. Are your electrical outlets properly grounded?

Hi. It is connected to a grounded outlet. The model is P03 640 :-)

Can you send a photo of the outlet where it is connected and the plug of the equipment?
Both the equipment plug and the wall connector must have three outlets, two for power and one for ground.

It's only two plugs here since im from Europe, and it have that ground metal sticks around the outlet.

What can happen it the case is that its not property grounded for a strange reason? Do we talk injury on humans or on the computer itself?

Can never say never but it was excactly like a static electricity from human body like caused by dry air/dry skin during winter time.

here is a pics of the power surge from Philips, its earthed. And so is the outlet in the wall, the output in wall seems just fine and is barley used before.

Also want to add that this morning i heard a very small electric sound/buzz sound when getting real close to it before turning it on. Is that normal for a gaming pc?

    Hi @Ray1980

Industry recommends to always have a Ferrite Bead (called Choke) on all the PC peripherals such a Power Adapter DC cable, USB and HDMI cables, installed as close to the PC as possible to protect the MOBO from electric noise like EMI currents. I live on a farm but when I am staying in our high rise in a big city my laptop will power up on battery only, when I connect the power adapter after my laptop has started it charges OK. I checked the DC cable of my power adapter (original came with the laptop) and it does not have this Ferrite Bead. Also none of the wall sockets in our flat in town are grounded but on the farm I made sure to have some grounded outlets. I now have a new adapter that came with a Ferrite Bead and will soon try if that works better in town and will also add a ground wire to some wall sockets.

Damage to the user or the equipment should not occur, but if you notice that static when not grounding, normally if you run your fingertip over the metal surface of the computer, you will notice a slight tickle.
The computer plug, the plug of an extension cord, and the main wall outlet must be grounded.
I leave you images of the three elements:

    1. Computer plug
    2. Wall outlet
    3. Power strip between wall socket and computer.

This one seems to have no ground, is it going to the wall outlet?
