Hi, I currently have a Predator Orion 500, PO5-600s and I'm looking to upgrade my CPU from an i5-9400F. I'm not sure which CPUs are compatible with the motherboard, so I don't want to wing it as I'm a newbie when it comes to computer parts (other than installing RAM, etc). Any ideas? Much thanks! :)

You can install any of the other 9th gen processors (Coffee Lake Refresh) that have the same TDP. Your best option is likely a i7-9700F or i9-9900 (they don't make an i9-9900F). My guess is though that upgrading your processor isn't a good choice. There is likely to be only a small difference in performance with a CPU upgrade. What are the rest of your specs? What type and size of drive, how much memory, which GPU, etc.? Where are you running into performance issues?

Increase your ram and get a new gpu as that is the best upgrade for performance for your Predator 5000 and will give you the best performance increase. Increase the ram to 2x 32Gb DDR4-2666Mhz and upgrade to either an RTX-3080 or the top TRX-3090Ti gpu as the PSU is adequate for these gpu upgrades.

@choose_a_nickname I'm guessing you didn't read the thread? Do you have a PO5-600s or a different model?

may be a little late. I also have the Orion 5000 with i7. It can be upgraded but at a cost. I put an i9-12900k. It shows improvements overall but the motherboard causes the cpu to power throttle. So at this point it was useless to swap my cpu. I tried getting an unlocked motherboard from acer but to avail. It really sucks that they don't give you more options. I want a new motherboard and psu. Like for example from the Orion 7000. Has z690 motherboard and a strong psu. Called acer and they won't share that info unless my snid matches a Orion 7000. So I basically have to rebuild my whole pc and the only thing I could save was my gpu. Very unfortunate. I would stay clear if you like to upgrade with the times.

well, just put in an MSI Z690 for example, the 5000 and 7000 cases are the same if you have a newer more modern one like most of us, and even tho acer only gave us an mATX MB, a regular sized one will fit np, one of our members here just put a full sized MSI Z690 in his and he has a 7000 series and his factory MB was also locked, so ya dont want that MB, and im getting the same one he bought and installing it, and he also swapped out the PSU and put a 240 cooler in and fans up top and a 4090 so anything can be done these cases are huge about the only thing that cannot be done easily is bottom fans. and i put 2 fans up top and added a tower cooler and 4x16 memory anything is possible i even removed the hdd caddy a few of us have for better air flow and im putting in a 1000w platinum PSU and Z690 MB and eventually a new GPU. and i have the 5000 that came with the 12gen i7 mine doesnt power throttle, search this page you will find all kinds of pictures and upgrades we have all done with great success.

It's a simple transplant, i was initially concerned with the front panel headers for the power switch but that was a direct fit too.
